Borderlands
Left 4 Dead
Left 4 Dead 2
Serious Sam
Deathmatch Classic
Warcraft II
Half-Life Deathmatch
C&C Gold
Painkiller - this is an often overlooked game. From time to time Steam will put the Painkiller package on sale for cheap.

I won't say this is easy to find, but if you're up for some crazy fps try to get a copy of Alien vs Predator 2 for the PC. I have very fond memories of this from past lan parties. If you can get the expansion pack for it, that is supposed to offer a lot of balance fixes and is standalone.

another vote for Borderlands

For some more lighthearted type fun, try Lego Star Wars. You can play co-op on the same computer even.

UT1. Hard to beat the classic. Should be able to pick up for just a buck or two.

Yep, the unreal series is great. I like unreal black the best.

During the christmas - new years sales on steam, the unreal package usually goes on sale for something like $12 or $13.

If the OP wanted to build up a great list of games, save up some money starting right now, and wait for the summer sale, the black friday sale, or the christmas - new years sales. A few days ago left 4 dead 2 was on sale for something like 75% off.

2 years ago I got the complete id package for something like $19 or $21. The id package has everything from doom, to quake, quake 3, to Doom 3 and return to castle wolfenstein.

for 2-4 players, I'd stick to deathmatch. Quake, Quake 2, Half Life...
Sin sucked as a game, but it was awesome for 2-4 player deathmatch.

Doom and Doom2 were great but graphicly are hard to look at these days. Same with Duke3d.

This is where ZDoom and the DoomsDay modification come into play.

Their addons that update the graphics, add mouse look, and bring Doom into the 21st century. All you need are the original WAD files, and your ready to play. I forget whether I am using Zdoom or doomsday. But it works with Ultimate Doom, Doom II and Final Doom.
