I'm trying to get various old games with LAN but no TCP/IP support for multiplayer work with a regular internet connection. Some of these games works on XP, some only on W98-. So, do you know of such sofware, or help me with specific ways to set up such a connection?

Thanks but I'm not sure if you understood. The games in question support multiplayer only through LAN. No Host/Client type direct IP connection. I want to know if there's a way to make that work over the net. I have both an old native W98 host, and a W98 installed in a virtual machine in VMWare on my XP.

As far as Networking goes TCP/IP is TCP/IP, from the game perspective it does not matter to TCP/IP if you run Win98 or Win XP.

If you tried and it did not run than it is Not a TCP/IP trouble but something else.

Water is the same whether you run it through Plastic pipes, or Metal pipes.

What you need is hamachi

We use it to play lan based games over the internet all the time.

probably uses either NetBUI or IPX/SPX (lots of old games were this way). As mentioned, Hamachi would probably work
