Lamp warranties suck

Why get a lamp warranty for a projector when it may take a whole week or more just to get a new lamp for it after your lamp dies ? Seems easier just buying a spare lamp to lay around so when your lamp does go out you can replace it the same hour instead of next week. A lot of lamp warranties require you to send in the burned out lamp first before getting a new lamp.

I know lamps are expensive but it depends on where you buy them and what kind of projector you have.

If you need it that quickly, buy another, then send in the bad lamp and get it replaced. That way next time, you have a spare ready to go. Rinse and repeat.

True but I bet by that time the third lamp you got sent back for replacement won't be used because you would have bought a new projector by then. Oh well thats a better idea than nothing!

Even if you buy another pj you dont have to pitch the old one. I plan on getting a few lamps for mine next tax season to put aside, I have no lamp warranty, and if they last forever I wont care, for I will get a new pj, and stick this one in the other living room for the kids, or my bedroom to have a 100" screen in there and I wont have to wear my glasses to bed

But in any case I dont plan on pitching mine anytime soon after I upgrade, it will still be useful somewhere for a 100"+ screen for something.

And hell buy someones blown bulb, cough cough, and send that in right now for warranty to have a spare in the closet.

Wow have you done this before or know someone who has? Is this even legal ? Are you talking about using your current 90 day lamp warranty and act like your projector bulb just blown a few weeks after buying it?

You won't be able to find a broken lamp anyway. Most people don't have the same projector and why would you pay money for a broken bulb ?

No

Didn't think so.

Though it is legal if your friend has the same projector, his bulb goes out within 90 days or less. He receives a new bulb. Decides he doesn't want that projector anymore or next the projector breaks but decides to just go out and buy a new one. Says you can have the old broken projector with lamp.

Then you can use the new lamp as a spare in his broken projector now.

ummm ok...

Yeah, someone can sell you / give you a working bulb that they legally obtained from their own warranty.

I am just saying technically there are ways around it. Its just like someone giving you a old dvd movie to keep or loan.

I don't see how this is a "way around it", when what you first described is fraud to get a free bulb out of the company and the second is someone reselling a bulb that was legally obtained from a valid warranty fulfillment.

I see it as a way around it because its the best way. Though its more trouble than it worth.

I guess I don't understand what you're trying to imply by your scenario then.

Are you saying you'd take his old broken projector and try to return that for your own warranty?

I thought you were saying this "friend" had his bulb blow out and he gets a replacement one. Then he gives/sells you the new lamp for some reason because gives up on his old projector or it breaks.

I don't know what this has to do with your own situation, but if you're trying to get a free bulb out of this somehow, there's obviously something you're doing that's fraud.

If somebody wants to sell you their legally obtained bulb, that's fine. I don't see what that has to do with "getting around" your warranty issues though.

I have never done this and just thought of it as I wrote it, but make a thread saying you own projector XXX I want to buy your blown bulbs.

You pay $5 for their blown bulb, call your warranty company say your bulb just blew and send them the blown $5 bulb, Profit.

And no I highly doubt this is legit in any way, but if you dont want wait next time.........
