i installed the latest lame acm dll (3.96.1 i think) and tried to reduce the size of an avi i have using virtualdub.

lame appears in the audio codec dialog box, and i am able to choose a suitable bitrate.

however, when i tried to "save avi", i get an error msg:

Error initializing audio stream decompression: The requested conversion is not possible.

what gives?

I'm not exactly sure, but the error occurs in the decompression, so maybe you don't have the right codec?

I have troubles getting lame to work with vdub as well, thought it was just me... use fraunhofer.

Primarily 2 sources for it, but I think it'd be prudent to remain silent ;)

actually, i've been thinking ... the error msg did say "decoding" error ...

so perhaps i need to install *another* mp3 decoder? i dont suppose the lame acm decodes and encodes? but that doesnt make sense as windows media player can play the clip i'm trying to edit ...

just grab the klite codec pack (uninstall your previous mp3/divx codecs) and your virtualdubmod will thank you for it. Has always worked for me. All the codecs are there.

Use G-Spot to determine what codec your current source file is but I'm sure once you get klite you won't have the decompression error.

The audio menu is under Streams.
