I haven't been anywheres near my computer througout the evening, I ended up passing by Yahoo! Sports to see that the Lakers won... my next stop was here, there are no laker threads... I see one about Derek fisher and Rick fox... but other than that... I don't see any, there is usually a series of flame wars going on about the Kings Smearing the lakers all over the court or the Lakers kicking King butt or whatever.

My Take:

Anyways, me being a lakers fan, I Feel that it is my job to celebrate so here it is... (Woo!).
Also as a lakers fan it sucks to say... I don't think the lakers will win this series. I have done a quick compare and contrast to show you why I think the kings will win.

This is what the lakers have going for them:

1. Phil Jackson is a great coach, he has proven that throughout the years. He knows how to win.

2. Shaq and Kobe are a very good combination. They are scoring machines.

3. The Laker Defense when it's on track makes it extremely difficult to score

4. The Lakers have very reliable clutch shooters (I.E. - Robert Horry)

5. the lakers are an incredible fourth quarter team

This is where the kings pound the lakers:

1. There are 5 guys at the start of the game who are being constantly rotated into the game who can shoot and who can score.

2. Vlade Divac may have a mouth, but the guy knows what he's doing, flopping may be "cheating" but it's part of the game, and as much as Shaq helps my team, basketball isn't a contact sport. Vlade Doesn't cheat, he plays smart.

2a. Shaq doesn't want to play defense on Vlade and Vlade can hit the outside shot... if I where vlade, I wouldn't bother taking the ball inside

3. Bibby has to be one of the top Point guards in the NBA aside from Jason Kidd, what opportunity that they kings don't have, he creates.

4. Peja Stojakovic is still out! What happens when he comes back????

4a. Props to Turkoglu stepping up being an awesome 6th man.

5. Chris Webber... the man can do it all... nuff said (I could do it all too if I was dating Tyra banks)

6. Doug Christie... (who I believe was up for defensive player of the year, and is mean from beyond the arc when opportunity is provided.)

That's just a basic reason why I think it's rediculous that this series isn't over yet... Anything that I missed? the reason I started this thread is so that you all can see that not all laker fans are ethnocentric, self-centered, bandwagon, super all-star NBA Analysts. Lakers aren't the best team in the NBA, they have yet to prove it, the only thing they've proved to me so far, is that they're extremely lucky. If you saw the last 30 seconds of tonights game, I didn't, I'd assume you know what I mean.

phil jackson has got to be the luckiest SOB ever. steps into a team with jordan & pippen, then shaq & kobe. both teams he inherited... two superstars begin hitting their prime. of course, he gets all the credit.

Shaq and Kobe have been with the Lakers before Phil Jackson coached the Lakers. They went nowhere close to winning the Championship. First year Jackson took on the coaching job, they won. Coincidence? No. Sure, the Lakers would still be good with Shaq and Kobe, but not good enough to win the Championship.

if u ask me, yes it was a coincidence. if u look at most young players (from the past decade) that come to the nba straight from high school, they blossom about third or fourth year. btw, look how great jackson was that year jordan decided to play baseball.

EDIT - and yes, i think lakers could've won those championships w/o jackson. laker fans can give jerry west their first born for that.

Perhaps it has something to do with his own choice. If you remember, when Phil decided to come out of retirement, several teams approached him, before the final candidates were New York vs. Los Angeles.

Now, would you rather have taken the team with Patrick Ewing and Allan Houston, or the team with Shaq and Kobe?

'nuff said.

Lakers shouldn't have won that game. The 3-pointer before the half was clearly still in his hand with time expired. Oh well... =\

All I have to say is GO LAKERS!!!!!

I always have, and always will be, a die hard Lakers fan. I was even a fan during the Randy Pfund years!! And Michael Cooper went to my high school (Pasadena High School, CA) ;) Of course, it's been relatively easy being a Lakers fan all my life (I'm 28 now), since they have, for the most part, had excellent teams.

Anyways, the Kings are a tough team, but in the end I think it's the Lakers' destiny to three-peat :) I would love to see the Celtics win the East! Wouldn't a Lakers-Celtics Finals be a throwback to a time long past!? ;)

if he was able to take the knicks to the next level (something riley wasn't able to do... partly due to a guy named jordan), i would have a lot of respect for jackson.
