Looks like the low 'Ring time for the Coby was no fluke. I have a hard time getting past the Cadavalier heritage, but have to admit it's a damn fine performer. GT-R continues to impress as well. But holy *crap* is there a gap between the ACR's/ZR1 and everything else.

2006 is long in the tooth? No need to run plenty of other cars on the list if so.

That's true, though it's somewhat interesting to see how other old designs (S2K, Miata) hold up. I love the M5, but this gen didn't come close to dominating like the E39 did in it's time. The CTS-V has it dead to rights in pretty much everything, so it's probable that we'd see a time a few seconds north of the CTS-V time.

i despise the cobalt, but that's certainly a nice time. i wish GM would put their effort into a better platform.

The Cobalt replacement is imminent, and it indeed seems to be a much better vehicle :

The Chervolet Cruze (yeah, stupid name for a car, but WE). Anyway, it comes with 5-star safety ratings, 6-speed auto / 6-speed manual, and very good fuel economy and ratings for interior quality. I think I'll probably prefer the new global Focus to it, though, as the only motor choices will be a NA 1.8L or a Turbo 1.4L :(

Maybe they'll cook up an SS version later on?

I am disappointed that Honda can't equip my car with some proper brake pads...

I wouldn't be surprised if they did a turbo engine pushing higher boost for an SS version. With what they did with the cobalt they should be able to do even better with a better platform.

With the issues that the GT-R has had with expensive out of warranty service the Z06 is probably the better deal.

I'm a Corvette fanboy but the transmission comments are getting fucking old. There was an issue, they then fixed the issue. The advertised performance numbers are no longer based on launch control.

I'm a little shocked at how well the Camaro did considering it's a fat pig, just edged out the Lotus.

Laguna Seca is a track that really requires a lot of power to put down a good times. The Lotus is a bit lacking there. The Camaro makes up for it's massive weight with big power in the straights.

From watching the videos, I really really really wanna drive that R8. It looked way more fun than the Vette, Viper or MB SLS.

I'm interested to see how the Cruze performs platform wise. If they could do a similar SS treatment to the Cruze, I could see GM stealing some sales from the imports. They obviously know how to produce a car that can take on the track and a decent price.

Not to mention that the V2 software is producing times just as fast as the old software.

Those ACRs are beasts. Anyone else think the flip up doors and front end on the SLS AMG look weird?

What's really sad is a sub $10,000 600cc sportbike with an "ok" rider will lap near 1:30, definitely under 1:35 seconds. A pro will turn a lap in under 1:27 on a mostly stock bike other than tires and suspension work.

GT-R and Z06 are truly the bargains of that bunch. R8 is $115k+ (!!!!)

Very true.

On the flip side, I do I have to say I'm impressed by how well the R8 did considering its relatively slow straight line acceleration and how much of a power track this course is. It is really a testament to how easy it is to drive through the corners.

I'm not going to lie, I'm kind of glad to see the miata put in it's place. A Cobalt SS beat it by 4.43 seconds, that's nearly the same amount of time the M3 beat the Cobalt by (4.79 seconds).

B... bu... but... but it was fun to drive...

And has a far higher potential of killing you when you screw up. They're fast, that is for sure... but they aren't for everybody :p

At the end of the day, which car puts a bigger smile on your face?

Hint: It's not the Cobalt.

. Valentino Rossi – Fiat Yamaha – 1’21.981

12 David Anthony Aussie Dave Racing Suzuki GSX-R1000 1:27.153 - slowest AMA SBK rider

um yeah I would say your figures chedk out since a SBK isnt THAT tricked out. I think you can build one for under 25K. If you cheap out you can still get close for probably 6K over a stock bike
