Laggy problem with my dual core.

I was playing steam (natural selection) and I was running my nod32 anti-virus, and both my cpu's were running 100% and I was getting some pretty bad lag. The reason I was doing this, well simply I can. I figured I wouldn't have laging problems but I was definetly having one. Any ideas why?

Everything being accessed on a single hard drive? More than likely the slowdown was due to the virus scan running on the hard drive, while the program you were running was on the same drive.

Stevty is probably right. Most real-time virus scans can be extremely intrusive and suck up CPU cycles like no other. Might as well be defragging your HD while playing something...

I know that sounds dumb fellas LOL but I just figured it wouldn't lag that bad u know since it's a dual core. I mean my buddy was doing the same thing running anti-virus, dl something and playing a game. I mean he did get some lags but not really bad.
