laggy online gaming

I always get some lag when I game online. I currently a DSL connection that is pretty constant at about 400kbps when I go to those modem test sites.

I always had my system overclocks...currently it's a 1ghz Athlon at 1.425ghz (9.5 x 150). Would overclocking has any effect at all on online gaming? Woud a normally clocked system have less lag?

I've also read that cable provides better bandwidth for real-time online gaming. I currently locked into a 1 year DSL contract and cannot get out w/out penalty until 2/02.

Bandwidth? Possibly. Pings? Not necessarily (and usually DSL has LOWER pings than Cable -- but it does depend on the service provided).

What do you ping to your provider (DSLAM)? I ping ~16ms to my provider with my DSL.
