I accidentally downloaded Search Conduit and Spy Hunter 4 last month, and I think I removed both of these, but for some reason, my computer still freezes up periodically. Any advice?

If you haven't already, scan the computer for malware. Conduit programs frequently install hidden malware in addition to the fake fixer/security/speed up programs.

I used Malware Bytes for 2 weeks, but there is only a 2 week free trial I believe. Is there any other free malware removal software? I tried bleepingcomputer.com but couldn't really find what I was looking for.

Lately SuperAntiSpyware has been giving me the best results.

If you remove everything it finds, or if it doesn't find anything, might be a good idea to clear you internet cache.

Also, have you checked your add-ons? One (or more) of them might be giving you problems.

Okay so I downloaded the AVG Antivirus software along with Malware Bytes and it seems to do the job. I keep getting some kind of message that says it has to do with this one website domain name. I'll try to post it when I see the message again

I prefer Avast Free - the boot time scan is the BEST!

I also like SpyBot and Malwarebytes. Conduit can be a royal bitch to get rid of.

Hi is there a way to get a free version of Malwarebytes other than the free 2 week trial?

MBAM has a fully functional free version. You just need to update it manually and can't run it in real time.

Pls get it and run the long scan.

You said you downloaded AVG....My friend, get out of the past. AVG hasn't been a quality product in a very long time. If you want a good list of what to do, I'd start with a fresh install of SuperAntispyware, run a full scan on your OS drive with that, then remove everything it finds ( including PUP's ), then, I'd run a full scan with MBAM ( Malwarebytes ) on your OS drive, again, with latest updates. Have it remove EVERYTHING that it finds. Then ( hopefully you removed AVG before you did all this ), I'd install Avast Free, update, run a full scan, then finish off with ( if you're feeling confident ) a HijackThis. Remove any reference to conduit, wajam, weatherapp, etc.

Also, in your Chrome, I'd go into settings, go to extensions, and basically remove all extensions except for one's you know you've personally installed ( such as adblock plus, google doc, translate, etc ). Make sure your homepage in chrome is set to your preferred homepage and not a conduit page, and you should be good to go.

Do you recommend HijackThis for a computer amateur like me? I will try the other 3 suggestions

You can do a scan, saving the log, upload or copy/paste it here, and we can tell you what to checkmark. that'll make it super easy for you.
