Lag problems on my laptop

I recently re-installed Windows XP my laptop (IBM thinkpad t30) and installed a few programs and I'm having some major lag problems that I've never had before. At random times I'll be browing and/or listening to music and mouse will start lagging and mp3's will start skipping. Sometimes it happens right after I boot up, sometimes it will be fine for an hour or two and then it will start lagging. The only way to stop the lag is to re-boot. I've uninstalled and re-installed all of my programs and cant seem to figure out whats causing this.

Have you installed SP1? How about the other windows updates and all the hardware drivers?
 
Hmmm, any/all fans working so that you know it's not heat related? Got the newest sound, video, chipset drivers?
