Lag and Bad Sound?

Lately my computer has been lagging quite a bit, i don't know if it's because of service pack 1 or what, but it was fine til like 2 weeks ago. for starters, I'm annoyed because with a Q6600, 2GB of ram (soon to be 4), and an 8800GTS, i shouldn't lag on anything. but anyway, ever since I started lagging (mostly internet lag only- yes i know my hardware has little to do with this) my sound gets jacked up. it does this weird static like sounds so i can't even listen to it. now, it's not always laggy, but if i say, open up 2 or 3 new tabs in firefox at once, the internet will slow for a few seconds and my music gets awful sounding. i've tried winamp, vlc, and jet audio, but it happens with all of them. could it be because I'm running sound off my mobo, and if so is there a way i can check if that is the problem? if that isn't the case, what else could be the problem? I've always had really fast internet where i am (speed.io says about 7-8Mbps down).

This brings me to another situation. speed.io has always said my down and up are excellent, but randomly as of the past few weeks I've been getting sometimes excellent but sometimes very slow ping and/or number of connections rating. i just got a job at best buy so once my discount kicks in I'm planning on getting a gigabit router since my current one is about 5 years old, but could there be another problem? i tried looking at the settings for the router, but even after i reset it, it wont let me access it using the generic username and password the manual told me to use.

SUMMARY: my internet can stream video just fine (ex. Revision3) but sometimes randomly the audio to those shows is scratchy, and my media players for audio are getting bad when websites take to long to load.

As always, all help is well appreciated. Thanks!

well, if there is anyone that cares, i accidentally figured out the problem; bad ram. i saw it was an accident cause i got bored one day and went to tigerdirect (where i purchase all my computer parts) and saw a good deal on ram, and since modern games are getting kinda heavy, i figured i would up my own count from 2 to 4 gigs (the special was 2x1GB for like $30 of ocz, which i already had some of). well, once it came in i installed it asap (which was this morning), and at first, the computer wouldnt boot past the first screen, wouldn't even go into the bios, so i was like wtf. one set of sticks was ocz gold and the new set were platinum, but they were all 1GB sticks, all PC6400 800Mhz. so i took out the two old sticks to make sure the new ones were fine, and sure enough, the computer booted fine. so, i figured while it was up and running i would google the situation, and from skimming the first few search results, i'm assuming the 4x1 set up didnt work because the voltage and latencies from teh old 2 sticks differ from teh 2 new ones (old is 5-5-5 and the new is 4-4-4 with a couple tenths of voltage difference). while i was googling such the problem, i noticed, wow, the internet is now working fine! no sound problems or anything.
