I bought a well used Miata for daughter, it's still a couple of weeks till she can drive it legally, and I have fallen in love with it's handling, MPG & cult car status...

Will women assume that I'm of an alternate sexual orientation if I buy a second one for me as a daily driver?

Seems the guys I know all say it's a feminine car, women don't seem to have that opinion...

My grandmother drives a miata, while she and my grandpa are on the boat for the summer they leave one of their cars, because I didn't have one yet.

I got to drive the Miata for the entire summer between grade 11-12, and I loved it. Small engine, but handled well, great gas milage. However the ECU shorted out on my way down a hill, killed the engine, power steering and power breaks going into a busy intersection. First scary car experience.

Anyhow, only overly sensitive 'he-men' call the miata a chick car. So what if it isn't a 67 Shelby Mustang, it's a fun car to drive.

That's a show presented by 3 men. For men. About cars.

Don't be so insecure. You have a daughter...

The new model is not the same car. It new from the ground up.

The last two models were 98% the same from 1989 to 2005.

The 'Miata' is called the MX5 in the UK/maybe europe. Lonyo's not saying it's the same car design-wise, he just means that by talking of the MX5, he means the same model of car.

I think MX5 sounds better than 'miata' which to me sounds like some kind of icecream.
Plus the new and old look fairly much the same, and they said both the new and the old one were great cars.
By same car I meant it has the same looks pretty much, and the same general view by most people as the old car.

Yes, you're right. Please note I'm from the UK and owned a Mk2 'MX5'.

The MX5 is what it's called now, they've dropped the 'miata'

I have a red 1990 as a 2nd car. I have a wicked long commute and the milege is great plus it's a blast to drive. When I first got it one of my brothers was giving me crap about driving a "chick car" ... then he drove in it and couldn't believe how fun it really is. Everyone calls the thing a go cart, they aren't kidding. I hope this thing runs forever.

Heh, just scored a green 97' from a dealer. Talked them down from 4999 to 3650...

It's a little rough, but daughter & I will have fun fixing them up🙂

Good for you! Look, no offense, but if you're old enough to have a daughter of driving age, you're too old to give a flying fornication what people think about your car 😉. I'd love to have one just for fun myself.

I got them down to 3650 from $4999😎 Almost walked out for $50 over the dealer paperwork fee, they caved🙂

I'll try & get some pics this weekend & post them. Both of the Miatas are well used, but we'll have a good time wrenching on them.

How many 16 year old girls are pestering their dads to learn how to change oil? (I'm still in shock)

Very nice. I like the rims.

TOP TIP:

Make sure you check the drain holes just behind the doors on each side. The rain runs down the hood and the around to cups and down the drain tube to the ground. Get a long piece of wire and poke it all the way down and through to make sure they are clear.

If they are blocked you'll get water collecting INSIDE the sills and you'll hear it sloshing about. If it gets too bad it'll start to collect in the footwells.

So if it has been sitting for a while, especially under trees or whatnot, check it out.

If I had a daughter who was about to start driving I think I'd get her tank instead of a little car like a Miata.

She learned to drive a MT on my F150, wish I could put her in a tank, but I think with a few autocross lessons she'll be a pretty good driver🙂

Maybe tomorrow🙂

Busy as hell yesterday, dentist, orthodontist, bought car, drove all over hell & back... no time for pics...

The pics in the autotrader link are pretty accurate, except they don't reflect the torn plastic window.

Good father.

lucky bum... 97 for only $3700?!?!?! i'm seeing ppl asking that much for early 90's models 🙁 I've been thinking of finding an old 1st gen to work on and use for auto-x

Hey, hope you enjoy your miata. I'm 16, just got my license, and bought a '90 red with 80k miles. It was in pretty much perfect shape, and no one calls it a girl car because compared to the POS that most 16 year olds drive, its basically a Porsche. Hope your daughter has lots of fun with hers, I sure love mine!

If that car has no problems and no accident history then what a deal!!! People around here want more than that for a 1990.

I thought you are a big/tall guy to fit in that car. Miata is a cute car but I haven't seen a guy who has it as a daily commuter car <at least around my area>.

I am thinking about getting one for my wife, since she's driving my truck right now. They are fun cars, so long as she doesn't decide to start driving my MR-2 and stick me with the Miata. 😀
