Ladies, answer me this question: Why do you guys go out of your way to impress someone you hate?

I don't know if "impress" is the right word here, but I think the meaning is there. For example, Alice hate Betty's guts, yet Betty invites Alice over. Alice goes out of her way to make a dish that takes many hours to prepare. Why?
