I saw your posts here re: lactose intolerance.

I was wondering if you guys have ever heard of this "cure"? Apparently, it's not a temp supplement and they claim that after taking the product for 38 days, your body should be able to digest lactose-filled foods properly...

Just wondering if anyone has tried it, as well and did it help.

Thanks!

my doctor pretty much told me this... "your screwed.." don't eat dairy...
I'm so bad that eating bread that might contain whey can make me sick...

Never tried it, but it is interesting. Sucks when you eat two or three pieces of pizza, and hours later it feels like Godzilla is working his way through your intestinal tract. I have it pretty mild, just so I have to keep an eye on what and how much I eat and I'm fine. But I'd even be interested in finding out if this works or not.

Yah, I did a search. Sorry if it seemed stalkerish.

Back to the thread: I'm fairly desperate enough to try that product out. I'm getting tired of soy milk in my cereal and skipping the Nestlé crunch ice cream bars and all that good stuff. But it kind of sounded freaky that the product will "recondition" your body and yet claim to be all-natural... and the price isn't really appealing ATM.

So yah, any lactose intolerant guinea pigs with money out there? :D

sorry i didnt look at your profile...

I think i need this more than all of you.. i have a very serious lactose problem...
I'm now finding out that bread is a no-no for me. I was wondering why i kept getting sick, i'm sick right now after eating my sandwhich for lunch...
I can't have any form of milk, or lactaid milk products.
Not sure why Oat Meal makes me sick, still working on that..

But i dont have the 129$ bucks to try it out. I'm going to do a google search to see if this product is legit.

Dunno how I missed this thread...

I've heard of Lactagen but never tried it. I can consume milk-based products without a problem, and I prefer to do so without any supplements to negate the effects of LI. In such events I prefer to simply isolate myself from others for a few hours....gaming is especially helpful in this respect.

after reading 'how lactagen works' i call complete BS. if you have lactase deficiency, you cannot 'train' your body to start making it again.

ok i just read their paper and research study. basically lactagen's active ingredient is bacteria lactobacillus acidophilus that they add to your gut that metabolizes lactose without producing gas. there was improvement in symptoms over placebo, but they only followed patients one month after treatment.

they have no followup after that which makes me suspicious. you can certainly modify your gut flora for a short period of time by supplementing it with bacteria, but i doubt it would provide a long term effect and a 'cure' to lactose intolerance.

from the trial, which appears moderately well designed though the number of patients could have been larger, it's probably worth a try if you really like dairy and are intolerant. but there are definitely no guarantees this mitigation of symptoms will last, as eventually your gut flora will return to normal.

you do NOT regain the ability to digest lactose, you merely add a bacteria that can do it for you.
