I read in my Psychobio book that asians are much more likely than non-asians to be lactose intolerant..and that milk is a rarity in that part of the world..which struck to me why people over there tend to be smaller than others..

I personally am Asian and can drink milk and other dairy products finely..

i have heard this too, but i think a lot of it is that most asians arent used to milk as i believe it is not a large portion of their diet...therefore asians who grow up in america are more lactose tolerent then those that dont.

i have also heard that midwest us is the most lactose tolerent.

but i dont drink any milk that has spiders in it

I'm not LI, but know a few whites who are... doesn't seem to be all that uncommon a thing.

Actually it is way more common for those of Eastern European decent (me in particular) to be lactose intolerant.

The intolerance varies from something barely noticeable to holy crap I think I'm going to die.

Mine seems to have leveled off and I can enjoy icecream again after 12 years. Milk is still a no-no. Yogurt was never a problem as was sour cream. That's because those 2 things have almost no lactose.

I hope you realize that lactose intolerance is perfectly normal in human beings. Not being lactose intolerant is considered abnormal, biologically speaking.

But if he is farting a lot, that means the milk is being broken down, which is the opposite of what would happen if he was LI. Correct?

Adult lactose intolerance is the most common of all enzyme deficiencies, and it is estimated that 30-50 million Americans have this condition. Some racial and ethnic populations are affected more than others. Lactose intolerance is found in as many as 75% of African Americans, Jewish Americans, Mexican Americans, and Native Americans, and in 90% of Asian Americans. Descendants of Northern Europeans and some Mediterranean peoples usually do not develop the condition. Deficiencies in enzymes other than lactase are extremely rare.

White (or as I prefer to be called "pink") & lactose intolerant, took me ~10 years to figure out, it's wierd, you still make the enzyme that degrades lactose, but the amount varies, and so does the amount of lactose you eat. Looking back, my dad was also lactose intolerant.

The pills work well though, I just polished off an hot fudge Sunday, with 2 tabs of lactaid:D

We're talking real-world here, not lab test results. While most people may technically be LI, if you can't even tell without benefit of a test it doesn't much matter. My point was I doubt it's much more common in Asians.

all three of my sisters claim they are lactose intolerant. I can and do drink a lot of milk though, but maybe that's why they're all 5'3 and i'im 6'0

All I know is that one time I was farting nonstop all the time for about 3-4 days. I stopped drinking milk in the mornings and switched to juice, and the farting stopped.

But on the other hand, after a week, I started drinking milk again and the farting didn't come back.

Actually, doesn't it have something to do with the growth hormones we have in our water and food?

I know a lot of Asians who "sprouted" when they moved here.

Alot of African Americans are lactose intolerant as well. They tend to eat cheese and curdled milk in Africa so they don't have the exposure that those that came from Europe and Dairy-land had.

So it is probably true with the Asians as well.

My mom is white, she has no problem with any food. My dad gets bothered with too much lactose, as do my sisters and I. We have issues with lots of foods. I guess my dad passed that gene to us--he is mixed.

Now wait a minute here - I never knew a symptom of lactose intolerance was gas. I produce more methane on a daily basis than the combined dairy fields of Tillamook County, OR, and it would please me greatly and those around me if I could figure out a way either to get rid of the methane or to channel it into productive, healthy uses.
