I don't think so - if you can stand ati drivers - I'd get a 100300 sapphire GTO2 for $170, almost half price and make it perform like a GT.

Or this for $190!!!

The 7800GT offers poor bang for the buck with those kind of deals IMO. Realistically it should cost $250.

Does 190 dollars mean 300 dollars? DOes it? Yes or no? The 7800GT can be had for less. I saw one for around 270 AR this week or last week. At that price, and at that performance, it blows the gto2 away when overclocked.

No sales pressure there. :p

Anyhoo, a 6600GT is enough to survive. Heck, I'm still in business with a 6600 vanilla, which is half that card. You can make it till the end of the year.

The $300 pricepoint is becoming the new $200 pricepoint, should be lots of fun action there sooner rather than later.

Of course, I say that now, with no games which I care aobut out right now. Come Oblivion I may be singing a completely different tune.

Dude I have a couple 6600GTs, a couple GTXs, and I had a X1800XL.

The 7800GT or X1800XL would be a HUGE leap forward for him. He could use AA and AF, and resolutions over 10X7. It would be night and day for little money when you consider he could get $100 for his 6600GT.

I'd say the same thing, but then a nuclear meltdown will ensue in the video forum...

It's alright fellas, I didn't mean for this to be such a big deal. I guess I have different ideas of what today's $300 card should do compared to everyone else. It isn't enough for me, especially since I can wait.

The benches I linked to were comparing the x850XT to the 7800GT. The 7800GT is about 50% faster for a bit over 50% more money. That is perfectly reasonable to most peope. I'm not taking anything away from the x850xt mind you, it is a mind blowing deal for ~$180; but it isn't close in performance to the 7800GT nor should it be expected to be.

We don't normally see that kind of bump in the mid range. I'm not sure what you are talking about in terms of the 7800GT not obliterating what you have now, nor what you are expecting to see performance wise in that price range. With a fairly modest OC you will be very close to GTX levels of performance for considerably less money.

The 7800gt is getting anceint compared to the excitement the $500+ range is getting (7800gtx, x1800xt, 7800gtx 512, x1900xt(x), 7900gtx).

The 7800GT is getting old in its throne because of its absolute domination at its price point. Nothing else is viable in its price range when compared against it. I don't see what there is to lament here- nigh top tier performance for mid range price..... I guess I really don't understand what it is you have an issue with?

The 6800GT by comparison was even a bigger over the previous best-in-class 9800pro. It was roughly 100% better in playable resolutions. What a f*kin beast. IMO the 7800 series wasn't as close to being a big improvement relatively speaking.

Both of the cards would be massive improvements over the 6600GT.

I got a very large noticeable difference going from a 6600GT (which i cooked) up to a 6800GT.
