Today is a friendly reminder of how imagined bias in the media is really attributable more to how well companies deliver info and release products.

Apple gets a ton of press because when it's ready to launch, it's usually really ready -- it has tons of things ready to show, the ship date is just 10 days off, and the first reviews show up in about a week. Then there's Google... which announces the Nexus 6 with a blog post, doesn't give hands-on time to most outlets until two weeks later, and is shipping a handful of units about a month after the announcement. It's hard for the media to flood you with coverage when it hardly gets anything to work with!

I think it's intentional though. Google and Apple are selling two very different things. Apple is selling hardware. Google is selling services. For Google it's not important than the Nexus 6 be a commercial success, I even suspect they are kinda trying to avoid that to avoid tension with it's hardware partners.

Can't really agree with you at all, every other tech site I've been to covered the release info on the nexus 6 and 9 and most of them have hands on by now. Anandtech hasn't bothered to even mention either of them at all, blaming it on google for not holding some media pandering event is kind of stupid. The info is out there, it's not unreasonable at all for tech sites to report on it without a press event.
