I have a Lacie 8x USB 2.0 External DVD burner (the older one designed by Porsche). In XP it's identified as NEC 2510A. I've contacted Lacie multiple times regarding firmware update because I have some 4x DVD-RW media from Office Depot that this drive will only burn at 2x.
Never got an answer.
I am tentative about firmware updates with external drives - not sure if I can just download any generic firmware and update.
Now I just bought a 50pk Memorex 16x DVD-R media. I use Nero 6 - it won't burn to the media AT ALL! I suspect the media code or whatever is too "new" and the drive is having issues?
What's the cause, and if firmware update is the solution, what's the correct/safe way to do it?
