Labtop problem

I have a Toshiba Tecra 8100. The problem is that the screen wont display anything, it is as if the computer is off even though is not. It was working perfectly fine earlier and even though i shut it down correctly the next time i turned it on the screen would not show anything. I hear noises when i turn it on as if its working. Help is appreciated.

Most laptops have a little button type sensor to detect if the lid (screen) is shut. Do you know where it is on your 8100? I've found on some laptops, the button gets a little plastic fatigue and is pressed in, eventhough the screen isn't closed. This would cause the screen to be off when the laptop is on. Try plugging in a monitor through your VGA port to test this.
