I've seen the Compaq V2000 (albeit at lower specs) for as low as $400 or $500. If you're ok without a DVD burner, you could get one of those, then upgrade the drive yourself (shouldn't be too bad), and add ram yourself (not too expensive). You should come out with more ram and a nicer hard disk for less.

In either case, I'd swap out the Celeron M for a Pentium M. When I swapped my CPU, the difference in price for my two chips was just $30.

So does Office Depot - especially the HP-Compaq Presario v2000 this weekend.

I checked at the prices and a hard drive would be about 100 bucks for a 5400rpm
and a dvd/cdr burner around $150 and add in another 50 for the ram, not sure that would fit the price ?

Upgrade on your own after purchase and sell the part you pull. Much cheaper. A 60GB 5400RPM is less than $100 while a 40GB can sell for ~$50. I saw a slim DVD burner for notebooks for $70 on Compgeeks and a combo drive should sell for $50.
