Here's an alternative: the Cambridge SoundWorks PCWorks 3-piece Multimedia Speaker System, which is on sale ($10.00 off) at hifi.com for $39.99.

Shipping is a flat rate of $5.00, bringing your total to $44.99 without tax.

I bought these when they were on sale for this price last spring. But hifi.com was offering free shipping for a limited time when I made my purchase. I live in Illinois, so there was no sales tax either, bringing my total at that time to $39.99 shipped.

The system has superb sound quality; I've enjoyed using them at work for about ten months now.

These speakers sound fantastic for the price! I currently am using Altec Lansing ACS48's for my main PC (which are fantastic), but I would like to buy another set of speakers for another computer. Can anyone give me idea how they sound compared to the Altec Lansing ACS48? I know there is a big difference in price, but I am just wondering if they can come close (i.e. bass etc.). Any information would be very appreciated...Thanks!

I have the AL ACS48's also and I just bought 2 sets of the Labtec Pulse 424's. The Labtec don't have quite the bass as the AL ACS48's but they sound great. I'm using the new Labtecs as rear speakers with the ALs for a quad setup. Sweet sounds. The second set is going to be use with my second computer. I believe that I'm going to pick up one more set to quad my second computer. Leads to the sats speakers are short (5ft.) So all I did was the open up the one sat speaker unsoldered the leads, spliced in longer cable. :)

Hey thanks for the reply whatnow! I think I am going to have to pick up a set of these speakers as well. I do like your idea for using them as rear speakers...great idea!

Hey guys. Am actually debating whether to get a 4 channel setup or upgrade from my 2 Altec Lansing ACS 43s to these Pulse 424s. How do you use a set of 2 satellites as a rear setup for a 4 channel system? If I could do this with the Altec Lansings I have, I could buy the Pulse 424s now, and then when I get a better sound card to go to 4 channels, I could use my old Altec Lansings. Is there a rear jack on the newer soundcards? If anyone can give me some info on doing this, I would be much obliged.

EDIT: Whatever. Bought some at the OD the next block over, these suckers have nice bass. Much better than the Lansings I had.....

These speakers are pretty good, especially for gaming. I took my mini-stereo system off my gaming machine and put it on my second machine because I was so impressed with this cheap little set up. Definitely worth the money. But no, they are not as good or better than top of the line Altecs, JBLs, etc.

For the price these are EXCELLENT speakers, nice sound, very decent bass, great for games, pretty good for music (unless you are into really crisp high's).
