Labs and ear problems

Have a question, I have a lab and she's always had ear problems. I clean her ears every day to try and keep down on that black tar stuff. Well right now she's really scratchin at her ear and shaking her head a lot and it's all red. Does anyone know of something that I can do now to help sooth it or something?

ahh yes, my apologies. I read it as the symptoms were going on for a while, not that they just occured. Kinda assumed it was a Dear Dr. ATOT thread...
