I get into LA around 1 AMish going down I5. I get into traffic james at 1:30. Takes me till later than 2 AM to get into Anaheim to check into a crappy Travelodge.

Drive to Hollywood back up I5. Jams around Firestone. Our trusty navigator tells us to take local routes and use Sunset Blvd to get there. Takes us till who knows when to get to Hollywood and later UCLA. We spent another 30 min around 5 blocks on Hollywood just to park around Hollywood/Vine. What the hell.

It's like close to 11 and we're driving home from a casino along I5 and we get into more traffic jams. Yay. We cruise around LA for clubs and bars and we're going to Anaheim at 2 AM and it's still jammed along I5. Woohoo.

We drive to Irvine on Sunday and it jams once more on I5 going to 55 and then to 405.

We leave for NorCal and it jams like a b!tch and took us from 2:30 PM till 5:00 PM just to get to the I5 straightaway.

We get to Berkeley at friggn 11 PM. Yea. Norcal rules.

Ride a bike.

no joke, 3.9 on a bike will take you like 15 minutes. plus, you're excersizing and saving money on gas

Yeah the 5 is pretty bad around Anaheim. Hollywood is always bad because of all the n00b tourists.

I'm in Nor Cal now and can't wait to get back down to LA where I live 5 miles from the #1 worst traffic spot in America and less than 2 miles from the #4 spot. Whee.

Hah. Told my friends not to go but they insisted on going on the basis of "i've never seen it." Meh.

I5 is stupidly 3 lanes in the most populous areas. I don't get it. I guess when they make it like 5 - 6 lanes when you hit Anaheim/Irvine it's much better...

405 at Sunset is always horrible too. I'm guessing the UCLA students clog it up.

First of all, it's summer, secondly, no.

In my last job I had to go to California a couple of times for training and whatnot. I suppose I got lucky and picked mostly off traffic times but the last time I flew in was on a Sunday night and I was driving from LAX north on 405 and the traffic was jamming up every couple of miles. Around here I have to drive a half an hour to find a traffic jam and that's usually on Friday during rush hour.

No the 405 is always busy except at 9pm. Its practically the only way for the people living/working along the coast to get home.

Traffic? I thought the speed limit changed to 35mph, and they just haven't gotten around to change the signs.
