I didn't care much for LA Noir. The whole interrogation mechanic was weird. Your supposed to look for tells, but I guess I really just sucked at it. It's not a game for everyone.

Playing through LA Noire on PS3 and I think it's okay. I'm with mmntech on the interrogation mechanic as I can't seem to get the right answers even with seeing obvious facial expressions. Still fun solving crimes though!

There is some type expression for each answer that gives it off. Sometimes but not always. Like a smirk its usually doubt, if they are looking away, its usually a lie. If they have a straight face and look at you, its truth.

You also have to pay attention to the tone of voice. There is an upward chime when you get it right and a downward chime sound when the person is accused wrong.

Despite the facial expressions, if you have evidence then you can prove a lie.

LA noire was a good game but I agree that the mechanics of interrogation did not work well and facial expressions alone at the time were not good enough.

LA Noire was enjoyable...basically like a Live Action Movie. If you aren't in the Law and Order tv shows I really wouldn't bother. The shooting scenes kinda suck, but the story is really good. I also liked feeling like I was back in the timeframe of Police Quest games.

Max Payne? Well if you enjoyed/loved the previous 2 I strongly caution playing the game. If you haven't played a single Max Payne game you will most likely love it. I loved MP1 and MP2 and couldn't stand what they did to the main characters, and also could tell there was a different writer as everything was super cliche.

As someone who studied psychology, what you said about their facial expression, tone of voice, etc... is true. However, in this game thats not the case. I have called a lie on someone who looked away, and clearly had all the clear signs of a liar, and he was telling the truth. Not to mention those who look you dead square in the eye, and you think they are telling the truth, but they are lying. Honestly, the mechanics were messed up.

Yup I have to agree with that. At times they didn't do a good job with the mechanics. I remember reading some guides and they mentioned what your response should be and when I was playing I would second guess the guide and go with what I thought, most of the time I was wrong lol.

Good game but i wonder how much your actions affected the story.

Trying to deduce the truth, doubt, lie based solely on facial expressions is the wrong approach. It's Lie if you have evidence to prove the lie, otherwise it's doubt. It's truth if the facts and your gut tell you their story corroborates.

Interrogations weren't perfect by any stretch, but if you're a cop ignoring evidence, you're doing it wrong.

How are these games, any good? Good performance on PC? Thanks,

Both games are good and worth playing. From what I remember performance wise Max Payne is better optimized for the PC whereas L.A. Noire, while still good, plays more like a console port.

Max Payne is good once you get past the beginning where there's a ton of cut scenes compared to actual gameplay. There's still a decent number of cut scenes throughout the game but it's nothing like the beginning.

L.A. Noire is one of those good not great games. It gets points for inventiveness and the time period but fell a little flat for me. I did enjoy it and would recommend it (especially at that price) but it failed to live up to it's potential unlike a game such as Red Dead Redemption.
