Last weekend I picked up a sampler pack of beers by Unibroue, and wow! I will definitely be trying more of their brews. The sampler pack had:

Ephemere - Apple beer
Blanche de Chambly - Wheat beer
Maudite - Strong red ale
Fin du Monde - Strong blond ale

The Fin du Monde was especially tasty - smooth and tangy, almost sweet. At 9% alcohol, I figured Fin du Monde (End of the World) referred to what would happen to you if you consumed too many . In fact, it refers to the explorers who, upon reaching America, thought they had reached the end of the world. Interesting!

Definitely try Unibroue's beers, especially La Fin Du Monde.

Yeah, I love their stuff - and I can't remember their name, but Unibroue's main distributor (Merchant of something, I think) carries some very good beer companies.

Isn't Unibroue owned by Sleemans now? I do enjoy La Fin du Monde, very yummy and packs nice whallop. I've only tried a few of the ones on the page you linked (Maudite, Blanche de Chambly, Terrible, and maybe one of the others) but how is the Ephemere? I always see it in the shop, but am a little wary of it since it is an 'apple' beer.

Hey!

I work in Chambly QC, right beside where they make this stuff. Let me tell you.. all these beers are simply put awesome. I don't know where you are from or what you have available but i would HIGHLY suggest you try Don de Dieu (gift from god) it is a strong but very smooth and tasteful beer (9%) hands down my fav beer EVAR.

Oh and KT the apple beer is great, i don't like it a lot because of the lack of alcohol(5%), its considered around here to be a ''girl'' beer.

Mmmmmm guess what i will be drinking tonight :)

I'm not sure who owns Unibroue, but you could be right.

The apple beer is not bad, but I'm not wild about it. It's less tangy and less sweet than a cider. Sort of a subdued apple flavour.

I would try them, but it looks like the odds of finding it near me are fairly slim.

Looks like there are a few TX distributors

Oi, at the prices in your link I'll just keep supporting my local breweries!

That is expensive, but keep in mind the bottles are huge! I think they are about 2.5 times the size of a normal beer (I may be off there a bit).

The prices were for a 6-pack of 12oz. $45 is pretty out there if I'm reading it correctly. 4-packs of la fin du monde come in around $10.50 for a 4-pack here. I've had la fin du monde, trios pistoles and maudite from unibroue. La fin du monde is definitely my favorite.

Wow, that is crazy. I was thinking it was the 25 oz. bottles which are about $6 each here.

Unibroue is outstanding. I just tried their Chambly Noire last night and thought it was quite good, though I prefer the fuller bodied beers they offer. Don de Dieu is my favorite.

Fin du Monde was a little too much for me. It was like drink beer with a hint of vodka.

Yes, I love most of Unibroue's beers that I've tried as well.

hey, do you see a lot of Abita in Houston? Because they are just starting to release Andy Gator (helles dopplebock) and Abbey Ale (a double) in 22oz bottles. I live a couple miles from the brewery and have taken to filling growlers of both at the brewpub from time to time, obviously these bottles will be more convenient. Both are excellent, if you can get your hands on them.

For $5 it's quite good IMO.

Yeah it's brewed by Unibroue. Usually a dubbel or belgian strong dark ale.
