The game was released with the following:

- 4 player models that differ only aesthetically
- 4 zombies that were different from one another
- 4 maps, of which you could only plays Versus on 2
- A small selection of weapons

What has been patched into it? One new game type and Versus on the other two maps. Color me not exactly impressed. It was widely circulated, and AFAIK never denied, that L4D would receive similiar support post-release as TF2 because there was a concern upon release with the small amount of maps in a MP only game. Clearly that was not the case and I'm not sure if that's a case of high expectactions or Valve not following through on their word.

edit: In fact, the Wiki page for L4D states (and is sourced) that L4D would have DLC similar to TF2 including new enemies, etc. They have stated more will come despite L4D2's pending release so we'll see.

I'm not so vehement that I'll boycott the next in the series. Valve will need to persuade me a lot to fork over another $40 for the next game in the series released just a year after the previous.

I agree with your view of it. My only point was that Valve provided a product and that product was successful out of the box in doing what it was meant to do. The best thing to do is as you say, and vote with your money. If people feel strongly about Valve withholding content, then they shouldn't pay up. I just try to be objective as possible. L4D was amazing due to its simple but great gameplay. Adding a bunch of new stuff might have muddled it up and the game as a whole may not be as good. We really don't know what they are planning for the long term. L4D was based on the source engine, but the new one might have many engine upgrades that can't be justified in a content patch.

they should base L4D2 pricing off what you paid for L4D1.

if you paid full price for L4D1 you get 2 for a highly reduced price...4.99 or something
if you paid 19.99 (Whatever the sale price was) you can buy L4D1 at 25.00

basically make it equal pricing for those who bought the game early at full retail and for those that bought L4D1 on sale.

It's the early adopters of L4D1 that end up really getting shafted on this whole fiasco.

I think this would help cool the anger.

dude, there's no way to prove you paid full price or not for L4D1, if you bought at a retail store.

I never saw what was so great about L4D. I played about 2 hours at a LAN center and was bored already.. Then I went to a Good Will and they had a L4D on the shelf. Me thinking that the key in the box was already locked to an account but it was like a dollar so I bought it anyways and it worked =P I never play it though. Boring as hell.

edit: nevermind, now the date is 29th.

Which in the beginning was the 2 same maps then they added 2 more maps months later. 4 maps is not enough variety and the same thing happens all the time and the stupid rage quitters, and killing a lot of the unpredictability that made it great by putting the tank in set places, and other crap.

Valve isn't the same anymore. When are they going to release single-player focused games that aren't based on a 5 year old engine? Now it would be great if those games had excellent multi-player aspects to them but unfortunately they only seem interested in Source based PC and Xbox 360 games and focusing on how to make more money off Steam.

God stop whining. Valve is one of the best developers out right now and you whiners still find a way to complain about them!

Just because it's a best seller doesn't mean it's good. Many bad games have been good sellers.

you have a good point, as good as i thought the game was, it was very short.

short? Online play = fun forever if you like it. Hell I can still play Iceworld on CS 1.6 after all these years and I still love it. L4D was an amazing deal if you enjoy it. I got 5 boring hours out of MP1 and maybe 1 longer out of MP2 and I paid $50 for the first one, and $15 for the 2nd (smart and waited for the $$$ to drop) I got 200 hours easy out of L4D. Seems like a great value to me *shrug*

How can you play the same couple maps for 200hrs??? At least CS gives you many different maps and different weapons but L4D is the exact same every time.

Most people play the same maps in games like CS anyways, as well as whore only a handful of the best weapons even if there are dozens to choose from.

L4D has only 6 different guns and most people don't even touch one of them (the hunting rifle, because its useless)

L4D is brilliant because it is such a uniquely different game with quite a bit of depth to it, all while maintaining a remarkable balance, even under intense competitive play

It sucks that they didn't give us more maps, I'll give you that, however making quality maps that are fun and balanced is no easy feat. I hope they throw us a bone or something and port some of the L4D2 maps to L4D1.

Rage quitters? On what side? If you're team stacking with your friends you have no right to complain. If you're getting raped and your teammates are raging, its probably because you're playing a team of friends. Get some friends, play with them. I'll give you a break here, because this has been the biggest problem with Vs. since day 1, and it should have seen an easy fix with lobby match making so you could have 4 vs. 4 friends.

Also, while tank unpredictability can be fun because its a mystery, there isn't an easier fix than the system they have now. When the game first came out you'd have Team A get a tank on their infected turn, while Team B got no tank at all...that's a HUGE disadvantage for Team B and completely unacceptable. Also, when they did make sure both teams got a tank, the tanks could be in drastically different locations, giving Team A a Tank before Team B gets to tier 2 weapons and amongst a bunch of punchables (like cars and dumpsters) while Team A gets to fight Team B's tank after they got tier 2 weapons and in an easily defensible location.
