Game and client changes

* Introduced fatigue to the melee attack in versus mode. You will see a HUD display when your melee swing is cooling down
* Boomer vomit will now pass through common infected

Good changes in my opinion. Spamming melee was a pain in the ass when playing as infected.

I don't play Versus but I've read a lot about the problem with melee spam in it so that is a good change I think.

The content update is suppose to hit next month and I read the downloadable version (as opposed to L4D + update repackaged in retail) is suppose to come earlier, so I think we'll see that update pretty soon too. :)

It's a welcome change. You could effectively conquer everything but a tank, by sitting in a corner and meleeing everything under the sun. This should make finales much more interesting, and hunter's a lot more dangerous. Especially if there's more than one.

Finally they officially implement this. I played at a couple servers with melee fatigue and damn it totally changed the game. I bet people are ganna complain cus it's ganna change the game so much.

They'll definitely bitch and moan because they won't be able to sit in corners and melee the shit out of everything. I always found the tactic cheap and annoying, especially when playing as infected.

Sucks. They nerfed it up for people who sucked ass at infected. People who bitched were just people who couldn't hang.

After playing a few matches with it, it't not that huge of a change, its really easy to work with the cooldown system and the cooldown is fairly minimal. I think it's a good tweak cus it was a bit overpowered before and now melee is still great but you gotta use your guns sometimes now too.

It definitely adds a sense of "oh shit" when you're surrounded by zombies and the little meter pops up.

I like the changed, I've tried it on two versus games, and I must say that it balances things better, however the balance has a hefty price for newbie teams, that change WILL kill them faster than before until they learn how to play properly, which by itself is certainly not a bad thing, but the learning curve could be stiff for some people. It took me one versus game to get used to it, and on the second one it was almost natural, as if it was there since day one.

My team could not adapt. They were surprised when our boomer was shot through a wall. Sigh.

Awesome change, this update prevents excessive corner camping and excessive rushing all in one simple change. Forcing the two sides to actually fight makes things far more interesting.

Melee = Co-op easy mode
Shotgun Spam = Versus easy mode.

I don't know any people in Versus who rely on melee, the cheaper tactics I know of, are for instance, huddling under a staircase when the tank comes so that if he tries to get you, everyone spams shotgun and he dies in like 2 seconds.

People have been calling for this change for a long time. I never really saw any good arguement against it...the force field shouldn't be more useful then your gun.

Well my arguement against it is that ill take more damage and sitting in the corner during those triggered horde attacks will no longer work as well as it used to :frown: I like using cheap tactics its fun lol.

How is that even remotely fun?

Have you played since March 11/12th where one tank punch in Vs. mode can hit all 4 survivors if they are close enough together, and where the tank isn't as obstructed by having to crouch?

Good. This should take away the lame stacking positions in No Mercy by the elevator, behind the gurney. Also, this should make common infected more useful after being boomed; lame how a perfect 4-man boom turns to crap cause someone has their back to a wall, and they're mashing melee.

Unofficial patch notes: Boom and horde rushes nerfed, less than half as many zombies show up. Yay one good nerf deserves another!

Is there some actual evidence to this (please provide link) or is this a personal observation after coming out of a game frustrated because you were getting owned?

After playing in a match and couple of scrims since the latest patch, I didn't really notice a difference in hoard, however the melee fatigue is absolutely huge and definitely more than offsets any reduction in hoard numbers.

remember a server can set the difficulty and the eaiser the difficulty chosen, the less horde there is among other things
