I just rebuilt my old Win95 OSR2 system, but am having trouble getting the soundcard to work correctly. It's a Logitech Soundman Wave ISA, and it works fine, will make a stereo recording using Total Recorder 3.4, but every time I reboot the system it only records on the left channel. I open the Win95 volume controls (Sndvol32.exe) and go to Options/Recording, select my inputs and every input except Mic (which is mono anyway) has the balance all the way to the left. If I center them, I can record stereo, but when I reboot, they are all the way to the left again! Where does Sndvol32.exe get its settings? I searched the registry and couldn't find it and I don't think it's an INI file, have a feeling it's somewhere else. Thanks for any help.

I seem to remember this problem for some reason...? (long time ago...) But when it does what your saying its a mono-stereo problem...? There is a setting some where that is telling the software its a mono recording device and is defaulting to the left channel to do so... (left is mono...) I dont have a system setup with that OS but I think its under the control panel under the sound option...?

I`ll do a little checking on this... got me curious to remember... :)

If you can find it or think of it that would be great. If I reboot, the line in balance is all the way to the left. If I go to:

Control Panel
Multimedia
Audio tab (the default)
Recording (bottom of the dialog)
Customize button

A dialog opens showing that the default configuration is PCM 44 Khz 16 bit Stereo. If I click OK and then check my L<--->R balance it's in the center! But when I reboot it's all the way to the left again. Unless you can come up with some answer I have a mind to reformat and repartition the whole main drive and install Win98 or maybe Win98SE. There's only 64 MB so I was loath to go with Win98 and I figure that Win98SE needs even more resources. I figure that the conversion of the almost 70 MB MP3 files I'm making will take even longer in Win98, and the conversion of the 65 min. MP3s is already taking over 2 hours. Thanks for your help.

There seems to be a problem with the Volume Control remembering its settings. I do this: Set the volume controls to the way you want, then, with the Volume Control STILL OPEN, go to the Start Menu -> Shut Down -> Restart. Hopefully, that will do the trick.

No, that didn't work either. Meantime, I've fdisked and repartitioned the entire main drive and formatted all the partitions FAT32 and installed Win98 from the CD. The playback and record sound levels and balances utility looks exactly the same as it did in Win95 and it's acting exactly the same! The recording balances except for the Recording Control and the Microphone all go all the way to the left every time I restart Win98. There has to be an answer short of tossing this box and buying a new one. Geez.
