LOCK THIS THREAD, PLEASE...I asked that people not bash others for stating their opinion, but to no avail...lock this $hit.

Exactly what was your purpose here, Helpless? You post an obviously inflammatory poll and expect . . . what? And then you pretend to be surprised and hurt by the very emotions you meant to stir up in the first place. Post crap like this again, and you'll be taking your camping trips elsewhere.

Hehehe...SNL deals with this in a hilarious way with Adam Sandler.

No, I wouldn't if I had kids.

To put a comparison to this, would you allow your son to go camping with a female adult that would be in the same situations as a scout leader? Probably most people would answer no, for the simple reason that it is sexually inappropriate. IMHO, ditto.

I wouldnt have a problem with it. Being gay is not a disease.
There is also a difference between sexuality and pedophilia.

Do you realize that the majority of pedophiles are STRAIGHT?

No, not unless I knew the scout master personally and trusted him.
Not that I'd expect him to do anything to my child, regardless of whether I knew him or not.

That said I live in San Fran and have friends who are gay.

In general I wouldn't want my kids to be taken camping by 'the boy scout master', gay or not, unless I knew them well.

Edit: my response has nothing to do with pedophilia or fear of my child being sexually molested.

there is a southpark episode that touches on this issue. the moral of the story was basically.... it's better to have a flaming gay that doesn't molest children than it is to have a closet gay that does.

i put not sure, because i'd have to know the scout master... i can't make a judgement without having met him yet.

As HotChic said, the being gay isn't the problem. It's just inappropriate.

YES I would. What does being gay have to do with anything? Do you think that being gay is some kind of disease that rubs off? You people make me SICK!

I'd rather my child's Scout leader be gay than an alcoholic schizophreniac

Judging from the poll there are either a lot of insecure people, or ignorant. One or the other.

Yes, nothing wrong with gay's. I have known quite a few gays over my life and one of my friend is.... "gay" in a sense. Good people or bad people, sexuality has absolutely nothing to do with it.

What, you think that female scout leaders would just be unable to resist tearing their clothes off to molest young boys? Talk about paranoid.

It doesn't matter.
It would be another thing if the question was, "would I allow my kid to sleep in a tent alone with a gay scout master" the answer would be no, simply because of the sexual situation. I wouldn't want my kid to sleep in a tent alone with a straight female scout master for the same reason.

EDIT:
for those people who answered no on the poll, you are very insecure or uneducated about gays...

It's nothing to do with molestation; I don't think either a gay person or a woman would molest them. I'm just commenting that to me, -note - in my *opinion*, it is inappropriate.

the person could be a convicted murderer, and i'd still let my child go, as long as i knew the guy/girl really well and was positive that no harm would come to my child. in a world where men of the cloth molest choir boys, i don't think it's safe to make any judgements without knowing the person really well first.

No, not because I think they would do something "inappropriate", just because I don't condone the lifestyle.

hotchic is such a brainwashed sheep. if the bible told you that your ass was your elbow i think you'd believe it.

and what does being attracted to a man have to do with children? furthermore, just like the average straight man is not attracted to 100% of woman (vastly lower in fact, there are some serious ugly women out there), why do people always assume a gay person would be attracted to all men and not a small percent. people are so f'ing stupid.

The scout master's character and trustworthiness comes first, orientation is secondary.

When I was in scouts in the 80s, my scout master was a closet gay. It was also in one of the largest troops around: over 100 members at one point. There were no problems.

no, i wouldn't; they wouldn't be in the scouts if the only scout leader available was gay. scout leaders should be role models and i don't feel a gay person would be the right role model, as it relates to the scouts, for my child. now if my son was studying hair styling or interior decorating i wouldn't have a problem.

Congratulations... you win "ignorant comment of the day"

Any other gems of wisdom while you're on such a roll?

Edit: Let me get this straight (haha). You don't think gay guys know how to set up a tent, start a fire, hunt for food, etc? What planet do you live on? The topic of sex should not even come up on a camping trip. I don't care if the leader is straight, gay, male, or female. So what the hell difference does it make WHO is teaching your kid how to fish?
