Well, it installed fine. Press launch and it goes to desktop and does nothing.....

In the processes tab of the task manager it does in the BG, but only a small amount of memory, just lingering.

I've disabled the user account pop up thing described on the net, tried running as admin and even installed without spaces (this was actually advised for a crack of a dodgy game but misread at first).

I bought this game from Amazon. Apparently it patches itself, but mine didn't seem to, unless it was included in the install. Can't find any patch files online either.

At a loss. Pretty poor start to gaming through my TV with the X box controller really.

Anyone else had any luck?

I bought it on sale on steam myself and didn't have any problems starting the game. However, I've played it for about 20 minutes and already can't stand it. I get basically every question wrong and can't figure out for the life of me how you are supposed to play this game without a walk through, which would make it pointless. What the heck am I missing?

I had the same problem as you with the Amazon version. No matter what I did I could not get it to run. Being in the IT profession I thought I could get it to work and I think I gave it more than a few good real attempts to get it to work. In the end I asked and received a refund.

Thoroughly investigate each crime scene. Gather every bit of evidence you possibly can, and then interrogate suspects later. You want to have a full arsenal of evidence so you can be prepared to call out your suspects on false claims. If someone says something that clearly contradicts the evidence, then call their lie. Pay attention to facial expressions. When people lie - especially earlier in the game - they'll refuse to make eye contact with you, tend to shift around uncomfortably, etc, etc. They'll look guilty as hell. If they're like this, but you don't have any evidence, then doubt.

It's not very hard. Maybe you're just a bad detective. :)

To OP: If you have it on Steam, do a file integrity check. Make sure you're using the latest graphics drivers, check to see if you have any offending programs running in the background on your computer.

My problem is it looks like everyone is always lying about everything, but I don't know if I have evidence to refute it or not so if I doubt when I do have evidence I fail, but if I call lie when I don't I fail. Grr.

I open the launcher, then press start. Nothing happens apart from a brief load icon from the mouse.........

In the task manager processes tab, L.A noire runs in the BG once for each time i press launch, but using a really small amount of memory. No idea. Really a shame, i dont want to send it back and have to get for PS3.

Did you try any of my suggestions? You also haven't told us if you own it on Steam or not.

You'll know if you have the evidence or not. Even during interrogation, you can press tab to open up your notebook and look at different pieces of evidence and see if they go against what the suspect actually said.

For example, you're at some guy's house and you ask him: "What size shoe do you wear?"

Guy says: "Uhh, I wear a size nine."

*check notebook*

*remember you found a pair of size eight shoes in his bedroom just a minute ago*

You: "What lying sack of crap, there's a pair of size eight shoes in your bedroom, you're totally busted."

Guy: "NOOOOOO"

(Maybe it doesn't go quite like that, but you get the idea, hahah)

The biggest thing for me was gathering all evidence and waiting for the music to change (indicating that there is no evidence at that scene left to be found) before moving on.

But some of the interviews are almost impossible to get perfect without a couple of tries because I found that sometimes I was meant to assume that a suspect knew about a piece of evidence I had found when there was no reason for me to think that. Or when you choose to accuse someone of lying about something they said but then Cole accuses them of something else entirely.

It's not steam it's a disc from Amazon. I turned Comodo off as I know it can be a pain. And steam off for that matter. I'm pretty sure i've got the latest drivers as it's a new rig but i'll check again.

It's a common issue, one with no obviously available remedies. Shame really. Just got my wireless X box controller and TV hooked up.

My problem is that it goes more like this:
You: Where were you last night?
Guy: I was at home until 9.
You: *call lie*, list of evidence includes something that may vaguely refer to the suspect being somewhere else
Guy: You got nothin on me! *Question Fail*

Or like:

Cole: Where were you last night?
Guy: uh... having dinner with my wife.
Cole: (has evidence he was with mistress) *calls lie*
Cole: YOU LYING SCUMBAG, I KNOW YOU DRIVE A FORD SO DON'T LIE TO ME!
Guy: wut
*question fail*

How did you get a refund? I have games that i have never played, but was constantly denied a refund (GTAIV and Bioshock2 come to mind).

Yeah, it isn't perfect, takes some getting used to. I usually look at the eyes. If they're really shifty or otherwise glancing around, 80% of the time it's doubt or lie. If it's a dead stare straight at you, probably truth.

Also I read an interview with the creators of LA Noire, and apparently the 3 options were originally Coax, Force, and Lie. So that's why Cole occasionally seems to go off the deep end on "Doubt". Once I started thinking about it that way, it helped.

This is something you have to be careful about. If the evidence is too vague, then don't use it. I had to learn this the hard way. Only call a lie and present evidence when you absolutely know you have something that directly contradicts the suspect, and not just "vaguely refers to him doing something else". My shoe example is a good reflection of this.

In your case, only present something that explicitly proves he was somewhere else that night. If it only vaguely "refers" to the fact that he could have been somewhere else, then it's not good enough.

Maybe that's your problem? Either the game won't play over hdmi, or it's choosing the wrong display.

It won't launch even on the PC. The gaming TV thing works fine.

Press launch, nothing happens apart from a brief load signal on the mouse, you know the spinny wheel.

Amazons feedback on the product is filled with people who can't run it. So is the internet.

How they can sell a game that most people can't run is beyond me.

I don't understand why it wouldn't run? The laptops it says has problems due to the on board gpu or something. Nvidia 'insert name', some nvidia program ruins it. But obviously that doesn't apply to me.

*shrug*. Most people probably can run it. The reviews are the minority that can't. I bought it on steam and the main menu didn't appear for me, did a little googling, gave steam administrator privileges, menu appeared, game has functioned flawlessly since. On Windows 7 64 with a Radeon HD 6970.

I've seen some crashes due to DEP in the past, so try turning off DEP for LA Noire and see if that helps:

(for Win 7) Control Panel > Search "Appearance" > Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows > Data Execution Prevention tab

Select "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:"

Add > Browse to and select the LA Noire executable

If that still doesn't work, try compatibility mode.
