L.A. Fitness club

I just joined LA Fitness, as they're opening a new club in my area, in December. Into membership is $145 and $40/month.

When they open in December they say they're going to $395/90... so it's a good deal. They have a mini-club open now... with tons of Cardio and Weight equipment, which is free to use until the club opens.

And they're opening a new 70k square foot club about 1/2 mile from my house. They claim it's the largest in the USA.

Anyone else belong to LA Fitness?

What do you do? Just be satisfied being a 300lb geek?

I don't think they have those in my area, but 70k square feet is crazy:Q

yup... 70k sq ft is insane! They're building it in a new "technology park" area... the company that owns the area built a 100k square foot office building, in the technology boom... for up and coming dot coms.. that went bust and they sold 70k to LA Fitness.

they're gonna have like 1000 cardio equip (bikes, steps, treds) 500 freeweight, 1000 weightmachines, an olympic size swimming pool, full size basketball court, 6 raquetball courts, 2 aerobic studios, a full sauna and whirlpool facility... plus new signups get a personal trainer.

it's insane!

very worth it. their hours are 5am to midnight.. just what i need to get back into shape.

i dont' exercise and i weight maybe 160 lb

I visited two gyms while in the LA area the last two weeks.

I belong to Golds gym here in IL, so I figured I'd give Golds Gym in Northridge at Reseda and Nordolf a chance. It was just plain nasty. It was old and run down, but in their defense, it was as clean as they can get it.

So there was a LA Fitness gym close to my mom's house at Devenshire and Reseda, and I went there. It was big, clean and nice, but a few things REALLY bugged me:

1: All the dumbells were unmarked, and not racked in order. What a pain in the ass.

2: All the perm-weighted curl bars had the same problem. All unmarked and not racked in order.

3. No stretching area.

What genius thought that adding the weight numbers on dumbbells and curl bars with PAPER STICKERS was a good idea???

Anyhow, I'm glad to be back in my home gym. The Golds here in Champaign is big, clean and has all new equipment. They are constantly replacing and updating stuff.

Finally, any gym that plays techno music should be blown to smithereens and have it's owner shot and burned alive.

ehhh, to each his own...maybe he just isn't caught up in his physical appearance and doesn't worry about how he looks to others.

That's not me however...and I'm about to cave and pay some fvcking insane rate every month to use a gym, since I'm not living on campus anymore. Lifetime fitness or the spiffy new community center...hmmmm...

Where is this uber LA Fitness? I'm moving to LA (likely Hermosa) and I'm looking for a place to play basketball, but none of the gyms have courts.
