I have no experiences whith this card whatsoever.. but I can give all the facts and rumours(not so facts) I've hard about this card ...

facts :
+ This card is almost as fast as a Geforce 2
+ This card is only a lil' bit more expensive than an MX

- This card has NO T&L so it not only performs bad at T&L optimised games it also looks worse (try running MDK2 with T&L and then without T&L, the graphical difference is stunning ...) so in a way I say this card is not "future-proof" more and more games will use T&L and as more and more cards start supporting it the non-T&L part of the software will be reduced (meaning that cards without T&L get waaay more work to do that the ones with T&L because the game is mainly optimised for T&L and almost not for Software mode (look at it like a glide game .. the T&L has to be emulated by your processor and this is very intensive ...) (especially if you know that the T&L unit is a risc(Reduced Instruction Set Computer) chip and has the approx Vertex calculatig speed of a 20 Ghz cisc(Complex Instruction Set Computer) processor... if you know that ... I would go for an Mx but I'm not objective at all (I'm an nVidia lover) maybe the radeon LE is a better choice than a Kyro ... (dunno if it has T&L tho ..)

Personally, I'd go w/ a Radeon. It is about (maybe a little slower) the speed of kyro II and has more features to play around w/. It even has a T&L engine so it is kinda 'future-proof'. But really, it is up to you. Its a toss up between kyro II and a Radeon card. If you have the money, go for a tried and true soltution (I can't believe I am recomending an NVIDIA Product) like the Gf2 (not mx).

I haven't seen any marks on it under win2k, but I can say its great under 98se. Good sharp 2d (which you won't get from nvidia) and good 3d... I haven't used it under something like Tribes 2, but it runs heavy gear 2 without a hitch...

The Kyro II is just as "future proof" as any Geforce 2, because it has zero overdraw which benifits it for speed just as well, if not better than T&L. Kyros are at LEAST as fast as a Geforce 2 GTS, and occasionally a Pro at resolutions that matter, such as 1024-768, and no other card quite handles 32bit color as well for speed as a Kyro II. Any incompatabilities you may have heard of are most likely solved with the newest drivers..and don't anyone try to give me BS about that statement, because I remember the day when you NEEDED to update drivers every week with any Nvidia card just to make it run. the Kyro also does FSAA better than most anything on the market.
Here's the deal. If ya want a cheap card that runs anything at 60fps or better@10x7@32bit with at least medium quality, and maybe anti-alias a bit on some games, the Kyro's the best thing since sliced bread. On the other hand, if you want the absolute fastest graphics in the world, and MUST have the newest possible effects, get a Geforce 3. But I warn you...with the money you spend on a GF3 right now, you could prolly get a Kyro II now, and later upgrade to a possibly/most likely faster Kyro III this Christmas. Hey, two cards for the price of one, and one of the two is faster???! Oh yeah...

Oh yeah, almost forgot...The Kyro II performs within like a percent of a diff between win98 and win2k, that can be said for very few Geforce cards, and certaintly can NOT be said for an MX. And good God man, don't even think of getting an MX over a Kyro of any kind..sure the MX is faster a few times at low rezes, but who cares when a Kyro beats it everytime at a high res, yes, even in T&L games such as MDK2. Matter of fact, it beats a Geforce 2 GTS in MDK2 at 12-10 in 32 bit color....

<< Whatever you go for, DON'T EVEN CONSIDER THE MX - PERFORMANCE SUCKS ABOVE 800x600 >>

Its not that bad, especially the 64 meg version. It beats my Kyro2 at a lot of stuff. Especially 3dmark :) :) :)

I say go for a Radeon. The LE versions (easily convertible into a regular one) are going for only $68 on price watch which is a really good deal. I'll be using mine for quite a while (a video card usually lasts me 3 processors).

Shouldnt it be the other way around ;) 1 vid card a year, proc every 3 years?
