Kyro II+Elite Force/Quake3

HI I am considering upgrading my Rage 128 Pro to the Kyro II Herc 4500.

I mostly play Elite force and Just bought SS
any of you with this game and card
what kind of frames rates are you getting
(it uses the quake 3 engine so quake 3 rates would do too)

right now im very choppy 20fps
I would like to get 60fps+ at 800x600 32/1080x1024 32

I get good ping (dsl)...but video lag is killing me.

Depends on what specs your system has. If you have a high end system (800Mhz +) then the Herc will be very good. If your system is a lower end one, then you might be best to get a Geforce card. Some may argue that the GeForce cards are better for high end systems as well, but from the benchmarks ive seen, I'd get the Kyro2 card.

Either way though, a new card (Geforce2 or Kyro2) will give you much better framerates.

I have a new 1.2Ghz DDR system with the Kyro2 card on order right now 🙂

The problem with Geforce 2 cards (esp the mx) is that with most games and a decent cpu your going to be limited by the video card esp at higher resolutions. With my 750mhz Duron the Geforce2mx and my Kyro 2 at low res 16bit was about the same, however at high res 32bit the kyro 2 was much faster. With my 900mhz Duron my Kyro 2 beats my old GF2 at ALL resolutions and colour depths!

To clarify my point, if you plan on upgrading your slower cpu in the future then get a kyro 2 (with a gf2 you'll get hardly any increase in performance with a faster cpu past the 800mhz mark), if you want to keep your cpu then get a gf2 which does better on slower systems than the K2.
