Go to PriceWatch, search for Kyro, and Computer Geeks have it for $30 and $6 shipping.
Nevermind, Hunter1 below is correct.

how are these things compared to say Gforce..
I guess for 34 bux... they are like gforce 1 in terms of 3d speed?
also how is the 2d?

Just ordered one to replace a Voodoo in one of my older systems.
34.50 - 10% code = 31.05 + 5.00 ship = $36.05 total
Thanks dpk777 for the info!

I am looking to upgrade overall performance and boot times for my Dad in Windows XP.. He currently has an ATI 8 meg card which is just squeezing by ....... Now that I am upgrading him to XP I would like to get him the best bang for the buck.... Keep in mind that when I talk games to my DAD its not Soldier of Fortune II, more like Solsuite 2002...

Bottom Line: Does this thing have :

1. Zippy 2D windows xp performance

2. Is it rock stable in XP (For those of you that have to support your Dads over the phone.) :(

Great card and great deal...
I have nothing to complain about when talkin about the 2d.
For about the same price as a 64mb geforce mx 200 or 400, you get better performance.

Here's a whole page of review links.

I too would like some idea of the 2D performace; I too currently have a Matrox G200 (8Mb) and am looking for a good 2D board under $40-50.

thanks

Hmm-- here's a 2D performance review
(for the chipset, not this particular board)

Also here,, though this may be cleared up by later drivers.

I bought a couple a few months ago when they were 50 bucks at compgeeks. They are pretty decent, you can play most games with at least respectable frame rates.

I would jump on this if I had a place to put it. I am currently using the Hercules version of this card which cost me $150 about 18 months ago. It has good 2d performance, good dvd playback, and acceptable 3d performance in most older games(~1 year old or older). Seems like a great 3d card for your average user or a cheap system but not your hardcore gamer. I had no problems with this card other than a bad fan which Hercules replaced.

wow..
i built my computer in june 2001 and at the time i got this card from newegg at about 149, which was the cheapest i could find at the time; I have win 98, win2k, winXP, and have never had a problem with this card; i dont play games, so i can't really say how good it is for playing games, but 2d performance is great for me; i watch my dvd's using powerDVD, and see other stuff online without any problems; i think for less than 40 dollars you get a great card; the only problem i had with this card was when i tried to install linux redhat 7.2 on my pc, but the drivers werent' supported. Then redhat 7.3 came along and the drivers were included. I would recommend this card, for the price!!!
And to answer the previous post, this card, at least for me, has been rock stable under win98, win2k, winXP, and redhat linux........can't complain at all.

The 2+ year old KyroII's performance falls between a GF2 MX and a GF2 GTS in most older games.
But the original company has taken a dive, and is trying to sell it's graphics division, with no takers, so be warned that it may follow 3dfx support.
Even some of the cards best websites for support have now gone, as other brands are the way to go.

Tom's VGA Charts
3D accelerator rating calculations for the end of July 2002
Another very detailed review
interview with STM to sell of their graphics division
NO SALE...Kyro II SE, III effectively dead

Never did like this card, as you could always get a better nvidia card for about 10% more money.
Better choice today would be GF2 GTS-V or even a GF2 MX400 for around $40 to $50.
Also a little biased against due to my first high end 3d card was Diamond EDGE 3D 3400XL,
(NV1) made by joint venture between STM and nvidia. That was one nasty card.

IMO, the 2D image quality is as crisp and clear as Matrox or ATI. And the 3D frame rates are very similar to what I get from my 64meg GF2 (some games slightly higher, some slightly lower), on a P3 @ 733.

yahyahyah *waves hand*
somebody says they are a little biased, i'd say A LOT
what gts-v is one talking about? it surely can't be the visiontek gts-v
and an mx is effectively as dead as a kyro, if one wants to argue about dx support and whatnot
chasing vid-card perfomance is russian roulette anyway (in this economy), the surest bet is to spend the least for what WORKS NOW, not some couldawouldashoulda talk
