I say bulldookey. The best mainstream card is the GF3 Ti200. Solid drivers support, superior performance by leaps and bounds, full DX8.1 support, DVI output...nuff said.

And if you say that the GF3 Ti200 is too expensive, the GF2 Ti200 is still a better choice than the Kyro II for a few more bucks.

Even looking at Anand's Titanium review, the Kyro II gets stomped by the GF2 Ti200 in most benches...especially at highers rezs. Not to mention that GF3 and GF2 Ti's overclock VERY nicely. My GF3 Ti200 overclocks to normal GF3 speeds (200/460).

I'm not sure what they call a mainstream video card, GF2 Ti200 was just an old video card with a new name that's probably why that didn't win. The GF3 Ti200 is a different story though and if you want to know why it didn't win then ask them not me. IMO atleast in the UK the GF3 ti200 is way too expensive, hell it's almost the same price as the superior ATI Radeon 8500, I know which one I'd pick if I wasn't waiting for the Kyro 3 to be released. Actually if the Kyro 3 isn't so great when it gets released I WILL be getting a R8500 if ATI can get the drivers sorted out! :)

Kyro 2 "offers good performance at competitive prices. The tile based rendering is really nice marchitecture and we like the company's attitude and marketing" ,luckly the reviewer hasent seen some of the statements on here.

Oh and here's one for you to add that "hey wheres my truckload of salt grains" feeling. Gamespy's Game of the Year voters choice ~ World War II Online.

I'd pick the GTS over the Kyro2 as the year's best mainstream card. It's fast, has rock solid drivers and great image quality, plus it can run trilinear filtering and anisotropic filtering without costing you a kidney on the black market.

I've owned a GF2 and now a Kyro 2 and a GF3. sure the gf2 might be faster, but the image quality (ESPECIALLY 2d) is not nearly as good as the kryo.

People... there's more to it than benchmarks.

2D image quality is irrelevant when you're using DVI like I am with my GF3 Ti200 and Planar 18.1" LCD:)

I still cant believe big computer campanies pair t-bird 1.4 ghz or p4- 1.6 ghz with something like tnt vanta..

BFG10K:Why do you think the GTS wasn't voted as 2001's best mainstream card, could it have something to do with it being RELEASED IN 2000 and not 2001! ;)

The Kryo 2 deserves winning the best mainstream card on earth because of the following things.

The technology behind the tile based rendering is quite good and it removes something in a graphics render scene that nvidia cards cannot do quite efficiently, OVERDRAW.

At the back of the Kryo 2 card, you'll notice that listed features are really humbling compared to nvidia cards it said that it has a fill rate of 350 mega pixels per second. its just equal to what the geforce 2 MX can do!

But in fill rate benchmarks, at least the Kryo II lives up to its promises unlike what nvidia is doing. In 3dmark 2k1, the gf3 should have a fill rate of 800 mega pixels per second but it only gives out 586.7 the gf2 gts promises 600 mega pixels per second but gives out only 265. The Kryo 2? It delivers what is written at the box with 348.2 damn! A company that does as well as what they say deserves noticing!

If the Kryo 2 had a true T&L engine, better clock speed and faster memory, I doubt it if it would be winning the mainstream card on earth award, it would win the fastest card on earth award!

Well, I don't know if it really will. :)

Benchmarks results were from www.tech-report.com

One of these day's i'll have to buy a used KyroII at the For Sale Trade Forum just to check it out. They ought to be falling into the $30.00 range soon.
