I have an 850 MHz Duron, and plenty of PC 133 RAM.

I prefer to run Win2kpro, but I can boot into Win98 if it helps my 3d performance.

I am considering the purchase of a Kyro 2 board.

1) is this reasonable given my hardware? I Currently have a GeForce 256 SDR. I like playing Tribes 2 a great deal.

2) would running Win98SE provide a significant performance boost for the Kyro given that T&L is done in software? Too bad the reviews for video hardware seldom include win2k in the testing...

Actually I have been talking to a guy who has a Athlon 900 who gets 109 fps in village mark when he overclocks it to 990, I get 121 fps in Village mark with my Athlon 700 overclocked to 750.

The only real difference between our systems is he is running Win2k, I am running 98se.

so maybe the win2000 drivers are safe drivers for the moment but dont push the speed.

From my experience with the Kyro2 the Windows 200 drivers are perfectly fine in terms of performance, it seems perfectly in line with the perfromance under Win9X.

"Here's a thread that doesn't really discuss it but check out Noriaki's post (first reply I believe)."

Quite odd actually, since the few revviews that I have seen where KYROII has been used on Win2K its Win2K performance is the same, if not better than Win9X.

Take a look at the Quake3 and Evolva benchmarks from Sharky's review (although performance seems to drop a tiny amount in the later synthetic benchmarks later).

Assuming compatibility is OK, this bodes well for KYRO's drivers under XP as well, IMO.
