Kyro 2 Trouble

I just got a Hercules Kyro 2 which replaced a creative vodoo banshee so u can imagine I noticed a difference in most games.......until I ran Diablo 2 in 800x600. With my old card (the banshee) I always got 30-40 fps no matter what, and now with the kyro 2 I still max out at 42 fps but when a lot happens on the screen it dips to less than 10. I've tried running both with and without force texture compression and force trilinear texture filtering but it still slows down so much it makes me pretty frustrated. Bottom line.... what to do? Plz help
