KVM with Audio

I'm adding another computer to my desk. My old computer is at 100% CPU load when rendering video and is usless for anything else while it's crunching.
What I need is a KVM switch that will have 2 ps2 ports and allow me to use the 5.1 sound system I have with both compters Both computers will have DVI and Audigy SE cards.
I've done some digging but I know someone on here will know exactly what I need ..thanks .. K

It is PS2 ( they also have one that is USB, but some have reported problems ). I use a PS2 model and have for about the last 5 years and it works flawlessly for me. Cheap too.

Two PC's... PS/2... DVI... 5.1... There is no such animal. :roll:

It's not called KVM because it switches your sound channels...

Methinks if you really wanted both PCs to be connected to the speakers you could get cable splitters for every connection it uses, though to be honest that's more than slightly fiddly and the wires would be enough to entangle a grown man.

I've been looking for such an animal myself. I've seen some audio switches advertised as 5.1 at the Seoul Emart but haven't had time to check it out. Maybe this weekend.

ok, to begin with, a DVI switch will cost an arm and a leg maybe a few legs . On top of that you want a 5.1 "A", if I were you I would be ready to pull out maybe 300 bucks from my pocket...

looks like I'm going with a Iogear DVI Kvmp GCS1762 2PORT USB KVM Switch With DVI Interface And Stereo Earphone. One computer will have stereo and the other will the other plugs plugged directly into it giving me the 5.1

Keep in mind that the switch is USB 1.1 and not 2.0. I'm not sure I understand how you're routing the audio, either (maybe I'm a little slow this morning, though...)

This is what I purchased....Mind you...its only for audio...no KVM or USB.

The switch itself was 26000 won (about $29). The RCA to mini 3.5 stereo cables (3meter) were about 1500 won apiece ($2).

I'll let you know how it works out.

Worked out well. I did have to go out to pick up some additional adapters to go from 3.5 to RCA. I forgot about the speaker inputs being 3.5mm.

Anyhow total cost was about $18 for cables/adapters and $29 for the switch.

I know you said 2-port but I love the IOGear KVM switches. They're great and they have ones with audio!

I have a very similar question. . .not tryin to hyjack thread though. . .

Purchased 22" Spectre with a native 1680x1050 resolution. Have a Startech KVM now with PS2, audio and VGA that works great in analog. I want to move to DVI based USB and Sound KVM. I would go with Startech again, but the DVI Startechs cannot support widescreen resolutions over 1600 in digital. The only two that I have found with decent reviews for under $200 street are:

Avocent Switchview Dvi 2 Port USB KVM Switch USB 2.0 Hub with Audio
- Comes with no cables

and. . .

Gefen 2x1 DVI KVM Switcher
- I am calling Gefen tomorrow, as I think the discontinued this model and there is a newer (and higher priced) version.

Both run around $150 give or take $25. I would like to keep the cost to under $200 for a good, solid switcher. Any experience out there?

Oh, both systems (only two PCs) will run same, native resolution on LCD.

AND, to the person that made the comment about "Two PC's... PS/2... DVI... 5.1... There is no such animal". . .I only need 2 speaker audio, but here's one with 7.1 audio. . .

HIjack away .. lot of good information.
Right now all I did was go back to the 15 PIN VGa connectors and added adapters to keep using my old IOgear mini KVM switch.
