KVM Switches

Anubis

No Lifer
I need a KVM that can Input 2 monitor signels and then out put them. ineed thsi because i want to switch my dual mon setop between 2 boxes. I looked on newegg but didnt see any that did this. anyone know of any?

also do any take USB mouse inputs? or do i have to get a USB - PS/2 thingie

if they dont exist is there a way to make it work 2ith 2 mons?

you could just get 2 kvms and a splitter for your ps2 stuff...not sure about usb tho. I know there are single monitor kvms that take usb, but wouldn't know how to split it.

you could get 4 monitors and synergy the whole setup...not space efficient, but think of the nerd value!!!

holy crap thoes are expensive. a regular one costs like 30$ why does a dual one cost 500$. that just doesnt make sence.

looks like im getting 2 1 port ones and some splitters

Well, the 2 1 port solution will work, but i have a feeling after messing with it for awhile you will realize why the dual ones are 500 bucks.

I think its the same situation as buying a powered KVM versus an unpowered one, the unpowered one will get the job done, but only a powered one will be seamless.

what is the diff between powered and unpowered ones? i didnt know these things were so complicated. what makes a powered one better?

KVMs have just a few tasks. Sharing keyboards and sharing mice is pretty much a piece of cake. The real cheap $30 ones cannot even properly handle those functions (ie scroll buttons on mice won't work). On the other hand, sharing a monitor is extremely difficult. The longer cable length, multiple cable junctions, etc all will lead to loss of quality. Thus good KVMs that won't harm video quality often are in the $100s+ range. Now you are talking about doubling the most difficult part - twice as many cables, twice as many junctions, twice as much interference, etc. I bet two $30 KVMs would look like crap. Maybe you'll get lucky, but you probably won't.

n/m - misread or something

we have some nice BlackBox units that have 4 CPU per KVM station, up to 16 cpu/station per box, but the base box with 4 cpu support is $1000 and each additional 4 cpu card is ~$500
