I just got mine in the mail today... 2 port KVM switch with USB switching, so when I go from one computer to the next, my printer, pda and webcam all come with me :D

Pretty sweet!

:D

The other nice thing too is that all the cables are included... you don't need to buy any extra...

I am using them right now and they are high quality. I don't see any ghosting on my screen at all!

They are great devices, until someone decides to turn it off. I have 3 Belkin 8 port units daisy chained in my network room. One of the computer illiterates that needs one of the machines didn't think the mouse was working, so she flipped the switches on all three of them. Result: Reboot every server to get the keyboards back. (of course after hours, so as not to cause unnecessary downtime.)

They are great devices unless they are or get quirky in which case they are one of the most frustrating pieces of hardware imaginable.

I have an old Hawking KVM w/o usb. It works rather well except with Intellimouse Explorer, with some versions of Windows it doesn't work right. If you surf, and scroll mouse wheel, it'll go back / forward pages when you reach top/bottom of the page.

It doesn't do it w/ XP Pro and intellimouse 4.0 drivers, but, will with Win9xMe with same drivers. Doesn't do it w/ 98Me using built in drivers to Windows. Very Odd.

I had some problems with them at first, and Redhat still doesn't recognize the switch, so I think I'm gonna reinstall redhat later tonite.... I goofed it up enough by hittin the power button cause I couldn't reboot any other way........

Why does it have to recognize it? I thought it was all in hardware. Shouldn't it only have to recognize the devices you are using?

Yeah it shouldn't need drivers, i know my kvm switch worked just fine with the knoppix distribution.

It shows up as unrecognized devices... all the ports that come off the back of the KVM are USB, so my keyboard and mouse get switched to USB... Linux is not recognizing that the keyboard and mouse are now USB.... no big deal...

Make sure that the distro supports hot swapping USB keyboards and mice (or you know how to configure it.) I did that with gentoo and I couldn't get it to re-detect the mouse. However, Mandrake 9.1 found it just fine.

KVMs do ROCK!!! :D:D:D:D

I'm just gonna reinstall Redhat tonite, cause I think i screwed the OS enough with all the hard reboots, then on install, I can tell it to look for a usb 5 button mouse and keyboard.... do you have the 3rd button simulated at all? would that be like the 3rd button in unix?

Honestly, I don't remember. Mandrake had a mouse config thing. Granted it could only find 3 buttons on my 5 button MS mouse, I just picked the one that could find 3 buttons. I think you have to edit a config file for it to find all 5 buttons. Of course this all depends on Redhat, which I haven't used since 8.0. :p

I hate that. and if you spend time to make it look orderly, you'll have to rearrange it anyway. Argh. I need an imac. J/K. :D
