KVM Switch

I was igven a KVM switch with an ethernet end. What I was hoping to accoimplish was to plug that into my one PC, and the ethernet end into my router then - I guess telnet - to the LAN IP and control the PC.

I'm not familiar with these KVM's at all, so any help would be appreciated.

Yeah I could use remote connection, but for whatever reason I could never get that to work right. Would like to ultalize the KVM if I can.

A brand/model would probably be more effective in letting people help.

You're going to have to forward ports from the router anyway, you may as well just get remote desktop to work. One less piece of hardware sitting on the desk.

I thought kvm switches were used to connect mulitple computers using one monitor :/

That's a new KVM-Over-IP KVM switch. Newer Dell PowerEdge servers use RJ-45 connections for connections to their KVMs. At work, we thought it was odd too since all our previous Dell KVM's used PS/2 connections. The PowerEdge 2850 and 6850's don't have PS/2 ports whereas our 2650 and 6650's do. I believe the Server Interface Pod is used to split the RJ-45 connection to VGA + PS2 mouse and keyboard.

Yeah its the Interface POD PS/2. Am I to guess than that I need a special console for this too work, or just software? I'm guessing if I plug the ethernet end into my router thats not going to help me eh?!
