Hello,

I just got mechanical KVM switch(went after the cheapest) and of course not satisfied with it ;P

so , I'm sending it back , and want to know , which one shoud I get , preferable 4 to 1 , I just need it for home use , nothing fancy , preferably the cheapest but fairly good one ...

Thanks,
bye.

I was planning on getting one myself.

I was checking out the Belkins or Linksys.

What kind did you get? and why are you unhappy with it?

Belkin is probably the lowest price among the high end ones. It's not bad at all, unless you want the more expensive Cybex or Ross.

I've tried different brands and for home use I like the Cybex ones. Check out SoulFly's thread in the For Sale/Trade forum for some good deals.

For professional use I like Belkin's omnipro or omnimatrix series kvms. Those are excellent for 8 or 16 port applications.

I've got a 2 till 1 cybex! and it's great, besides the ctrl button.... when pushing the ctrl button twice within a second it will override the keyboard and you can choose witch computer to use, by pushing the a or b button and enter... this is kind of annoying in games that use the ctrl button! so I have to rearrage the buttons if they uses it.

I've used Belkins in the past and I was happy with them, but right now I own an Iogear KVM Switch model GCS12 (2 to 1) which I am really happy with. Displays up to 1920x1440 and you wouldn't even know you're running a KVM switch. By the way the switch is very compact, it actually fits in your shirt pocket. I also used my wireless/optical Logitech trackball on it and it worked like a charm. I got mine for $70 at a PC Club. Just giving you more options.

I didn't like any of the low-end Belkin models. Mouse usage wasn't too bad but there were some issues when it came to booting and switching machines. Using any resolutioin over 1024x768 definitely caused degradation. Mebbe I'm just picky: the only KVMs I've liked were about $1200 each.
