KVM Switch drops mouse

I have a basic KVM switch, and when I switch away from a machine and go back to it, most of the time, the most will stop functioning. I have to restart the machine. Is there any software fixes for this?

is it a smart KVM or just a physical switch-box? Physical switch-boxes aren't good options in machines today. Smart KVMs (like the OmniView and Switchview lines from Belkin and Avocent) generate a signal to the un-selected chassis to make them think a mouse/keyboard are still connected...

Yea I got stuck with one of those older generic KVMs as well. It's basically no good with newer mice/keyboards. Any "fancy" usb mouse with multiple buttons being used with a USB->PS2 adapter is no good. It'll flip out and click everywhere and basically be uncontrollable upon switching. I tried messing with drivers, it's no good.

Thanks for the advice about more advanced KVMs.

Specifically, does anyone have one that works great with a Logitech MX500 mouse?
