KVM question

this summer some time i am going to be building a cheap linux box. i get tired of haveing to turn off my computer and telling it to boot of the second hard drive into lius instead of windows. i am in college so i do not have room for a second monitor and keyboard and mouse in my dorm room so i am looking to get a KVM switch.
i am very unfamiliar with them so i was wondering if anybody had any suggestions as to which brand to get and which brands to stay away from.
i also like to game so will there be any delay from the switch or will it be just like normal. i thought i remembered somebody saying at somepoint in my life that KVMs have a delay sometimes. i only need 2 ports and i have a USB mouse and keyboard so i would need to have USB unless i use the USB>PS2 addapter.

You might want to check out this one. You might also want to do a search on KVM to look at a discussion that was in here over the weekend. It was for a 4 port, but if I recall there was some mention about linux issues with some of these KVMs. Good luck!

I use a KVM and the electronic ones work very well there is about a 1 second delay sometimes when switching to the other machine. They are really cheap now, a hundred bucks will buy a very good one.
I used a manual one for a long time and sometimes it would lose the mouse making me reboot but the electronic one has never failed.

I use this one. I like it. I read alot of good things about this brand before I got it. I haven't gamed much lately but I don't remember any problems.

I use the Belkins with audio switching... Beats having two sets of speakers or unplugging the speakers all the time.

There are some no-name kvm's with audio as well.

ok. first of all. thank you to all that have replied so far.
i searched some of the other forums, and i found some pretty useful info.
i just have one more question. i found this KVM that looks pretty good. but in the other threads i heard some people talking about not being able to use the media keys on the keyboard. i really like being able to use the play/pause forward/backward buttons on my keyboard. it beats haveing to alt-tab out of a game to change songs. does anybody with this KVM have any experience doing this

i appologize for the crappy link but i do not know how to make a real link

You can get a 2PC USB KVM switch made by IOGear for around $69 at Best Buy, CompUSA, Frys, etc. I use last years 4 port version and it works great with Macs, PCs, and whatever OS you maybe using.

i have a belkin one that I am currently selling. its PS/2 but works with usb-PS/2 adapters and will suppost resolutions of 1600x1200 @ 75Hz

That's the same one I've been using since it came out. Works great, but I don't know if it works with the special buttons on the keyboards.
