Hi,
I need some advice on KVMs. I want to be able to run upto 8 machines through 1 monitor keyboard and mouse. The machines are a mixture of PS2 and USB only connections and a mixture of windows 7/10 and Hackintosh computers. This is purely for fun? and for sorting out machines for friends and relatives so different machines are added and removed at different times. I originally used 3 2 port kvms with 3 Monitor?Mouse?keyboard setups but space is now more limited.
I had used an Aten CS 9138 KVM (PS2 only ) with psu but had numerous problems with the mouse not working even on the PS2 machines. On other occasions the mouse would initially work but would stop when trying to use the keyboard. As I added USB only desktop machines I tried using PS2/USB adapters with varying success.. I tried different cables and various mice and keyboards but still have had problems. I even purchased some belkin cables to enable me to swap some of the cables out, but I still had problems when only connecting a few cables at a time. I picked up another CS 9138 at a very good price but the problems stayed.
I recently picked up a Belkin F1DA108T KVM and extra cables but I am still having similar issues as well as others. Issues now include constant screen resizing on changing box, very very poor/unacceptable picture quality in comparison to the Aten and others. I am still having the occasional mouse and keyboard problems.
I have run out of ideas. I cannot afford to buy a new 8 port KVM due to long term illness but I really would like to know whether or not there are any reliable S/H PS2/USB KVM out there. Is the Belkin Pro3 any more reliable ? I have heard that the startech KVM range are amongst the most reliable.
Any advice most appreciated
thanks
