I have around 4 machines running in my office and I'd like to condense my workspace. I was looking at possibly setting up a single desk with 2-4 monitors and hooking up all my machines to them and a single mouse/keyboard set. Is such a thing possible? Would I break the bank attempting this? Does anyone have experience with these kind of things that could suggest something?

Thanks for looking, any feedback is appreciated.

I should also point out that my thought is to have at least one "main" monitor and still be able to keep track of the other machines as my work requires it. I'd like to maybe bounce the focus of the main monitor to which ever machine needs the focus. I do admit I may have seen this set up in too many Hollywood movies.

Yes, you will break your bank, you are looking close to $200 for a VGA/PS2 switch, if you want DVI and USB, you might be looking upwards of 6 or 700 dollars.

If I understand correctly, basically, out of your two monitors, you want one to focus one one machine and 2nd to focus one another machine? if that's correct I don't think there is anything out there that can do that, atleast not to my knowledge, might be a sci-fi thing...

Close.. I'm thinking more in lines with 3-4 monitors focused on the laptops/workstations I have. I can't go headless as I'm needing to keep an eye on all the crap floating past, so the traditional KVM isn't going to work. I could go with just the keyboard/mouse switch but I was hoping to set up a large "main" monitor with other monitors around it. I've seen a lot of multi-monitor setups that look like I'd want but they're all using the same PC.

It looks like "Rose MultiVideo" supports something in line with what I'm thinking of. I've no clue how it'll work in real life, but they are saying they support up to 4 computers to 4 monitors. I have no idea how they share, and if I can change monitor focus. I've an email out to them but haven't heard back yet.

I could be very well dreaming, and this still isn't possible. That'd be a shame as you'd think someone would have something like this already.

Are they all windows machines?
Setup one machine as the main one spread across all the monitors and use remote desktop to connect to the other machines
Than make each remote desktop window full screen on its own monitor
If not windows based try something like vnc
