KVM 2port or 4port

I want to buy a kvm for 2 computers.
I see many different types. I noticed tripp lite 2 port is about the same price at 4 port at buy.com.

I am looking to spend about 100 (this was the cost for 4 port tripp lite). I think 100 is enough for what I am looking for. The specs I need.

1)I need no ghosting or image problems upto 1600X1200 if possible or the one right under this (12xxX10xx?) is okay too.
2) support for my MS wheel mouse

thats it.
I only really need a 2port I see the dlink and linksys KVM 2ports are around 50-60 bux.

Please provide me with any recommendations brand model that supports what I need above.

Thank you

I've got the Linksys ProConnect PS2KVM4 4port. Simple to use and self powered (via video card).

Only drawback I ran into is that it had problems with my Microsoft Intelimouse Explorer optical mouse. One, I had to use the USB->PS2 adapter (no usb port) and two, after a switch the mouse would jump all over on it's own or just not respond. A std Microsoft Intellimouse works fine.

I'd say pop for the 4 port, it's not much more and it's cheaper to have the extra ports than to buy another one when you need to add another PC.

Don't skimp on the quality cables, I had a lot of video noise until I bought good quality cables.

You mean cables do not come with the KVM? or are those cables bad?
What about
Tripplite any good news about their KVM?
Linksys ProConnect PS2KVM4 4port you speak of does it do 1600X1200 with no ghosting?

I bought mine without the cables as I had everything, so I can't comment on the quality of them.

I can get 1600x1200 thru it fine, but I'm running some expensive Monster Cable BNC cables (~$40ea)

One of the gotcha's on KVM's is the cabling

I have the 2-port Linksys and have no problems with my wheel mouse or ghosting. (well, only at 1280x1048 I run)

Most KVM's do NOT come with cables so you need to factor that into the equation. The ones with cables usually refer to themselves as a 'kit' and they specifically say that the cables are included. I've heard of people having ghosting problems if they use inferior cables. The ones that come with the Linksys kits are very good quality, if you buy your own cables make sure you get good ones. The reason most of them don't come with cables is they have no idea what you're gonna be hooking up - AT keyboard, PS/2 keyboard, serial mouse, Mac, Sun box, etc.

I use a 4-way Belkin Omni Cube. Works fine - no mouse jumping. I'd highly recommend getting high-density cables. First-off I got the cheapy Belkin cables (about 15 GBP), but caused unpleasant image degradation. High-density cables (about 35 GBP/set) much better. Still not as clean as a simple vid card -> monitor arrangement, but definitely worth the extra money.

Okay what do you guys mean video degradation?
Okay I will look into the linksys I think linksys was relatively cheap..

<< what do you guys mean video degradation >>

Meaning that with the longer cable lengths, running through the switch, etc., the signal is not as strong as if you were going direct from the computer to the monitor. The sharpness of my LCD display is still there but the brightness goes down just a tad. (upping the brightness on my monitor basically compensates but I don't even bother doing that anymore as it's not that much different)

I'd get your stuff from a place that's easy to returns things to just in case you don't like a particular brand or what to try different cables, etc.

check out the Iogear MiniView 4-Port PS2 KVM Switch w/Cables
just bought one -- comes with 4 sets of 3-in-1 cables.
no ghosting.

and right now there's a $30 rebate:

what resolution do you have it at?

okay I looked at two linksys ones
ps2kvm4 (4port) 73
KVM100SK (2port kit) 76 but it comes with cables..

I don't think there there are any other differences between the product...
Do you guys know any differences??
if not I prob will get the 2port kit...

Okay one last question
THe linksys has two KVMs
One kvm100sk the other is PS2KVMSK (same as PS2KVM4 except 2 port not 4)

KVM100sk is about double the price of PS2KVMSK.
Further KVM100sk is actually more expensive then PS2KVM4

Only think I can see that are different between KVM100sk and PS2KVMSK
is that KVM100sk can be powered both by keyboard or AC
I cannot tell how PS2KVMsk is powered up by

Is PS2KVMsk powered by ac or keyboard?
OF a stores site of the power requirement of PS2KVMSK

Power Requirements

9 VDC ?? what is this??
