I had never really been interested in Kung Fu movies. But I just got finished watchin ip man and ip man 2. I thought they were great. I am more a fan of the subtitles than the dubbing. Can you guys recommend me some similar movies to ip man?

Some insane mixed fighting styles in Tony Jaa's "Ong Bak 2" and "Ong Bak 3".

Similar ones to Ip Man that in my opinion, are far superior.

Once Upon a Time in China
Iron Monkey
Fist of Legend
Drunken Master 2

These movies have GREAT fight choreography as well as an actual story to back up the fighting.

Are you looking for modern or classic. I enjoy the movies made in china because there are some subtle cultural differences that seem interesting.

Classic - 5 deadly venoms

New but seems classic - Once upon a time in china

New-very cosmopolitan - any of the jet lee movies

On a side note, I started watching some of the old 1969 Kamen Rider TV series from Japan. I watched these when I was a kid. Imagine the Batman TV show of the 70's in japanese with monsters. Much more camp then I remember.

I tend to like newer stuff, but some of the new stuff gets out of hand. I liked ip man cause the fight scenes were not over done and fake. In the second one they put in a bit of fake stuff when he is fighting on the table, but other than that it was fairly realistic.

I don't keep my eye on too much of the Chinese martial art movies, but I've seen a lot of clips of movies that Donny Yen (the guy that played Yip Man in the movies), and they don't seem too far fetched. There's actually this one movie that I've been meaning to find that I think someone linked on here (in that bad ass action scene thread)... it has him fighting off some Germans in WW1.

It sounds like what you want to avoid are the "Wire Fu" movies or the Wuxia style of movies.

Flashpoint - He tries to incorporate MMA into the fights. Colin Chou and Donnie's end fight is awesome

Killzone - I'd just youtube Donnie Yen vs Jing Wu. Police baton vs knife. So awesome.

Iron Monkey - Just good 'ole fun.

Fon Sai Yuk - Cheesy and funny.
