It was released in December 2004 in Asia, and it'll have a limited release in the USA around March this year... I saw the trailer and it looks promising... 😉

Here's the trailer linky:

One of the leads is the dude from Shaolin Soccer.

psst he's also the director. 🙂 Plus some of the monks from shaolin soccer are in it.

This guy's name is Stephen Chiau and he's been around for a long time...if you like his stuff, you should check out his older stuff too. I recommend: Forbidden City Cop, Fight Back to School 2, my personal favourite...A Chinese Odessey 1 & 2. Almost all his movies are good, but these were my favourites of his older stuff.

I hated fight back to school (1-3). I did like God of Cookery (iron chef parody), When fortune smiles (TMNT fight), Love on Delivery, and the King of Comedy/Beggars. 🙂

I've seen most of his movies but some are horrid like that Lucky Guy or Lung fung (sp?) Restaraunt. It's hit or miss sometimes.

His older stuff are much funnier IMO. God of Gamblers 2, All for the winner, Fist of fury, etc.
Anyone remember the title to his movie about the pool tournaments?

I think it's Legend of the Dragon. edit: yea I just didn't want to make a huge list of movies. His gambling films were funny and imaginative along with all those films set in ancient china (flirtong scholar, royal tramp, etc...). Or that 007 parody, From Beijing with Love.

It's very very hard for American ppl to understand his humor. Perfect translation is impossible.

In Shaolin Soccer at least, the awful subtitles just made the movie that much funnier 🙂

Stephen Chow is the Jim Carrey, Adam Sandler of the Hong Kong/Taiwan/China film industry. My personal favorites are God of Cookery (don't know the exact translation) and Shaolin Soccer. I saw Kung Fu Hustle in Taiwan over Christmas, the movie beat the box office record in Taiwan originally held by LOTR. Crazy lines just to get in. Anyways, the movie is pretty funny, the humor is what I like to call idiot humor, its so stupid its funny. Very entertaining satire on a lot of Chinese Kung Fu myths legends etc.

Yeah I love his gambling films, I like it when some of the characters in those movie re-appear out of nowhere in another unrelated movie (like Mr. hung). I watched God of Gamblers 2 too many times and still found it hilarious (eg: Videotaping his ramen eating skill using his feet) 😀

He is the one. But I disagree on Adam Sandler. Adam is overrated here in US. 🙂

I watched every Stephen's movie at least 20 times each.

I can't understand all of the dialouge in Chinese so I rely on the subtitles too. Still really good & hillarious 😀

yesasia.com

I knew Netflix also has some of his movies on DVD.

Hmm.. maybe I should subscribe to Netflix now.

Him and the fat old guy (Wu Meng Ta, I don't know his english name) is the best comedic duo from Hong Kong.

Loads of good info, thanks! I'm going to order the American version of Shaolin Soccer (my bro doesn't want to give me his Chinese DVD-version) and will get "To Beijing with Love" from that yesasia website... Any other suggestions (I need $10.02 left to get free shipping 😀)

Kung Fu Hustle is (obviously) still not out on DVD...

I got "Love on Delivery"...

it's ng man tat
http://www.lovehkfilm.com/people/ng_man_tat.htm
did they have a fallout of some sort that chow doesn't cast him any more?

last time i saw ng, he was in some sort of comedy horror movie where towards
the end, 2 big busted girls were beating him up w/ their breastusus and he yelp later
that the boobs knock out his contacts, therefore he couldn't see sh*t, much less being
hypnotized by the villain's gaze......anyone know the title of this flick?

some of the other recurring quirky x-dressing characters

http://www.lovehkfilm.com/people/lee_kin_yan.htm

i read he's going to make a sequel to god of cookery next, but
now that kung fu hustle has broken all sorts of box office records
in asia, he's already reading kfh 2 scripts already
