I placed an order on Friday for a video card and put in my work address for the shipping address. They would not ship it until I called in and verified the address. At first it kind of pissed me off but then I realized how nice and secure (read: CYA) it was of them to not ship to any address but my billing address on my CC. Most places just ship the products anyway.

All it took was a <1 minute phone call and they processed the order. I really do appreciate it when companies actually look out for the customer.

It delayed my order by one day, just because I didnt get the email until I got access to my email about 10 hours later.

If you're going to do this regularly call your CC company and add your work address.

That way they can just verify with the CC company rather than you.

On the back of my Visa debit card (and on the back of my Amex card, though I don't use that as often) is my signature, along with "Please check ID." The guys at Fry's actually do check, and I let them know it's appreciated.

I know, I just didnt have time that day + I figured they would just ship it like everyone else.

I agree with the delay times. Whenever I build a computer for someone and they give me the goahead, I don't even begin to order from there until the person has called their CC and put my shipping address on file with them. I once had an order held up like 2-3 days because their Customer Service Reps never called me back. Everytime I called, I had to leave a message. It was really annoying. Then on top of that, it took like 1-2 days for the item to ship and then it was like 5-7 days for the free shipping. It look like 10 days to get the product from time of purchase.

I have to admit now though that they are much better. My last order with them went out the day after I ordered and got it in 2 days (with free shipping) - so they are slowly getting off of my sh!t list.

It gets old when they verify it for every freaking order. I'm not sure if they do, but a bunch of places do. I need 40 versions of my address on file with my credit card to get something shipped. If most of it matches, just ship the dang thing.
